Job Title: Occupational Therapist

Department: Therapy

Reports To: Rehab Director, EDO

 

Summary:

Evaluate patients and develop occupational therapy treatment programs in collaboration with the physician and provide occupational therapy treatments to patients. Administers complex active and passive therapeutic exercise, ADL retraining, and various cognitive techniques. Instructs, motivates and assists patients in learning and improving activities of daily living. Supervises and directs the efforts of the Occupational Therapy Assistant, if one is assigned.

Education & Qualification Requirements:

Bachelor's Degree, Master's Degree, or Doctorate Degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited college or university. Current license/registration by state of hire as an Occupational Therapist.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the establishment and ongoing evaluation and implementation of treatment programs, plan of care, goals and discharge plans for the patients as related to Occupational Therapy needs in conjunction with the physician. Revises the plans and goals based on changes in patient status.
  • Provides direct patient care services to ensure the effectiveness of Occupational Therapy programs.
  • Applies heat, light, water, and electrically based treatments/modalities (i.e., ultrasound, infra-red lamp, muscle stimulation, traction, hot and cold packs, paraffin baths, whirlpool, diathermy, etc.) to stimulate muscle/nerve function and/or for pain management, as prescribed, with proven competency and available equipment.
  • Prioritizes, plans, treatment and travel times to provide for maximum efficiency, yet meet the needs of the patients.
  • Ensures orders are carried out in a professional manner satisfying professional ethics, patient rights, and State and Federal codes and regulations.
  • Facilitates effective communication amongst other clinicians providing care to the patient.
  • Assists in coordinating the Occupational Therapy program with other appropriate health care providers/ disciplines providing services to the patient.
  • Participates in interdisciplinary patient care conferences as applicable and maintains ongoing communication with all disciplines involved in the patient Plan of Care.
