Research and Security Specialist

About the role

The Capabilities Analysis Division (CAD) of Applied Research Associates, Inc. (ARA) is seeking a skilled and seasoned Research and Security Specialist to support a large team (100 staff) conducting research and development that develops methodologies, processes, and technological applications for detecting, locating, identifying, and physically and functionally characterizing, modeling and assessing WMD threats to support intelligence characterization efforts and defeat planning and potential combat operations.

The smooth and efficient operation of this effort requires support from a detailed-oriented, self-motivated individual very familiar with administration and integration tasks, workforce management, operational support, and security support as described below:

Administrative & Integration Support

  • Act as a key liaison for R&D program communications and operations.
  • Provide administrative and project support for R&D activities
  • Manage program communications by operating the main phone line during standard business hours.
  • Handle the receipt, sorting, and distribution of incoming unclassified and classified mail and packages.
  • Create, maintain, and distribute current organizational charts and contact lists to further R&D activities and coordination.

Workforce Management & Training Support

  • Facilitate the in-processing and out-processing of R&D funded personnel, including by managing checklists and coordinating the control of government property, ensuring all administrative requirements are met.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for the contractor workforce regarding all training matters.
  • Maintain a comprehensive database to track and report on the status of mandatory training completion and clearance status for all personnel.

Operational & Meeting Support

  • Assist in the preparation, execution, and documentation of weekly and monthly R&D status report meetings.
  • Oversee the scheduling, reservation, and availability of conference rooms, and resolve any potential scheduling conflicts.
  • Manage all facets of visitor control, including processing visitor requests, greeting and signing in guests, and coordinating escorts in accordance with facility security protocols.

Security & Equipment Support

  • Provide assistance for contractor Special Security Office (SSO) activities as required.
  • Manage the process for issuing and tracking badges and other necessary access forms for the contractor workforce.
  • Assist in the preparation and maintenance of Government Furnished Equipment (GFE) and contractor-owned assets required for R&D efforts.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Organizational Security Management or similar.
  • Ability to communicate management and security issues at a level comprehensible to laymen and senior-level government representatives.
  • Expert knowledge and use of Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • 5-7 years direct work experience in research analysis/security
  • TS clearance with eligibility for SCI based upon a SSBI in the last five years.

Desired Qualifications:

  • 10 years direct work experience in research analysis/security
  • Military or commercial experience in large data-set analysis, data quality, data discovery
