Job Details:
The Technology Lab Coordinator supports the Texas Immersive Institute (TXI) by maintaining and organizing the lab’s immersive technology, including VR/AR headsets, haptic devices, fabrication tools, projection systems, and spatial audio equipment. This role involves setting up and assisting with demos, operating and troubleshooting complex AV and projection-mapping systems, and ensuring all gear is functioning safely. The coordinator provides hands-on support and documentation for students and faculty, manages technical signage and wikis, and helps create an efficient, well-maintained lab environment for research, teaching, and creative projects.

Purpose:
The purpose of this position is to be the team’s technical backbone and problem-solver—the person who keeps TXI’s immersive lab running smoothly so creative and research work isn’t slowed down by technical hiccups.
Responsibilities:
Maintain and organize technology within TXI’s lab space, including VR/AR headsets, haptic gear, fabrication tools, and projection systems
Set up and assist with demos involving virtual reality, augmented reality, and haptic feedback devices (e.g., bHaptics gear)
Operate and troubleshoot TXI’s spatial audio system (Genelec, Denon, MOTU)
Configure and run projection-mapping systems and multi-display environments
Troubleshoot equipment and environment issues in real time; help ensure all gear is functioning safely and correctly
Support student and faculty use of immersive technology through one-on-one assistance or documentation
Assist in documenting processes and maintaining studio signage and wikis
Required Qualifications:
Current Student at UT Austin
Preferred Qualifications:
Familiarity with immersive media tools such as Unity, Unreal Engine, or TouchDesigner (basic knowledge is sufficient)
Comfortable using VR headsets (e.g., Meta Quest 2 and 3), AR devices, or motion capture tools
Understanding of or willingness to learn projection-mapping workflows and spatial audio setups
Interest in creative technology, media arts, or human-computer interaction
Reliable, detail-oriented, and excited to learn through hands-on work
Salary Range:
$20/hr
