Youth Diversion Program Paralegal
Public Protection & Advocacy Bureau
Civil Rights Division/Children’s Justice Unit
(Temporary One-Year Position with Benefits)
The Attorney General’s Office (AGO) is looking for a highly motivated person to support the day-to-day administration of the Office’s newly launched Youth Diversion Program. The AGO Youth Diversion Program, created in response to the 2024 Act to Prevent Abuse and Exploitation, requires diversion for youth under the age of 18 charged with possessing, receiving, or sending sexually explicit images of another minor via cell phone or other technology, commonly known as “sexting.” The program supports Massachusetts youth to develop safe and responsible technology practices with the goal of promoting healthy relationships and sexuality in a digital world. Developed in partnership with the Department of Youth Services (DYS) and the Office of the Child Advocate (OCA), the Program aims to reduce recidivism while keeping youth out of the criminal justice system. This is a full-time, temporary position for one-year with benefits.
Primary Duties: The Youth Diversion Program Paralegal supports the day-to-day administration of the AGO’s Youth Diversion Program. Primary responsibilities include reviewing new referrals, making eligibility determinations, and coordinating between the Juvenile Courts, District Attorney’s Offices, defense attorneys, and DYS to facilitate the timely and effective processing of all referrals. Additional responsibilities include tracking, organizing, and maintaining confidential records; entering case information into Program databases; and internal data management and reporting.
Working closely with the Children’s Justice Unit (CJU) team and external partners, the Program Paralegal will also support the development of the long-term Program. Program development responsibilities include scheduling and participating in regular meetings with court personnel, District Attorney’s Offices, state agencies, and other external partners; gathering stakeholder feedback into the Program; assisting in revising Program materials; and making updates to the Program website, as needed. Work may also include conducting program outreach, supporting periodic internal and external trainings, and supporting CJU’s other legal work.
Position Type: Full-Time/Non-Exempt. This is a full-time, temporary position for one-year with benefits.
Salary: $53,762
