SUMMARY:
Performs basic duties of patient care under the guidance and direction of the Registered Nurse. Performs various housekeeping to maintain a clean and orderly environment, monitors department inventory and restocks supplies. Performs clerical duties as assigned. Assists with comfort and safety of patients. Takes and records vital signs, height, weight, intake and output of patients. Greets, interviews, registers and transports patients. Assists the physicians and nurses with bedside procedures.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Supports and promotes an environment conducive with Mission, Vision, and Values of the hospital.
- Performs basic duties of patient care under guidance and the direction of the Registered Nurse.
- Performs various housekeeping and cleaning duties to maintain a clean and orderly environment.
- Monitors department inventory, places orders and restocks to maintain a functional environment.
- Provides patient care to neonates, infants, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric populations. Age specific competency is measured by variety of methods which may include, but is not limited to, self-learning packets, review of age-specific guidelines, direct observation, annual education, annual competency review, videos, unit based classes, policies and procedure review, or chart review. Performance expectations are defined in the competency evaluation.
- Assist patient in a manner conductive to the patient comfort and safety.
- Takes and records vital signs, height, weight, intake and output, and measurements as applicable, in an accurate and precise manner.
- Performs clinical patient procedures. Examples: EKG’s, urinary catheterization, IV access and discontinuation, etc. as trained or instructed by the Emergency Department RN.
- Notifies nurse of changes in patient’s conditions in a timely and appropriate manner.
- Greets and interviews patients, obtains signatures for the purpose of initiating the patient record, and generates the admission records in the computer.
- Transports patients as needed through the facility.
- Assists in the Emergency Preparedness efforts of the hospital.
Qualifications
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
High school diploma or equivalent is required.
CERTIFICATION / LICENSURE::
Must be certified by the Illinois department of registration as a CNA, MA or licensed by the Department of Public Health as an EMT-B or Student Nurse.
Current CPR certification is required.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Computer skills
Basic medical and office equipment skills.
Ability to perform vital signs, vision screening, specimen collection, tests/procedures as trained.
Must have the ability to follow written and verbal directions
Applicant will be required to complete orientation and annual competency standards as outlined by hospital policies and procedures.
Previous patient care technician experience or equivalent preferred.
