Overview:

Incumbent serves as the Chief Financial Officer of M&T Realty Capital Corporation (M&TRCC), a subsidiary of M&T Bank, directly performing or overseeing the performance of all key financial accounting and reporting, loan accounting, investor reporting, technical support, and business-related functions for M&TRCC and its related business line.  The incumbent manages the staff and activities of the M&TRCC Finance and Accounting department.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Oversee all M&TRCC Finance and Accounting department staff, exercising all of the usual authority of a senior division manager with respect to staffing, performance appraisals, promotions, salary recommendations, and terminations. Coach and develop subordinate managers and other staff members, ensuring that they receive all necessary training to do their respective jobs successfully.
  • Provide direct support to the CEO, President and COO of M&TRCC by: managing all of the financial affairs of the company; developing and overseeing detailed annual budgets and forecasts for M&TRCC; and assisting in the development and implementation of M&TRCC’s annual business goals.
  • Track and provide timely reports on M&TRCC’s financial performance, keeping Finance and senior management at all levels of M&TRCC and the rest of the Bank (including the Executive Committee and M&TRCC’s Board of Directors) aware of all pertinent developments, positive or negative.
  • Responsible for the oversight of M&T RCC legal entity reporting, Audited Financial Statements and all Agency and HUD reporting.  In addition, responsible for the financial oversite of the division’s internal financial SBU Reporting and analysis. 
  • Work with other senior M&T managers, including the M&TRCC CEO and President to identify emerging issues and model business line opportunities, including those relating to revenue enhancement, cost control, and/or standardization. Contribute to the resolution of complex problems within M&TRCC and across the Bank.
  • Initiate and provide oversight for new projects within M&TRCC or across the Bank when issues or opportunities arise. Build consensus within M&TRCC and across the Bank on important issues.
  • Responsible for the Annual Incentive Plan development, approval process and payout process. 

Scope of Responsibilities:

  • The incumbent serves as the Chief Financial Officer of M&TRCC, providing direct and continuous support to the company COO and CEO. The incumbent is a key member of M&TRCC senior management team. The incumbent’s contributions are considered critical to the successful management of the company’s business, which entails the servicing of a $33 billion commercial loan servicing portfolio (average loan size over $19 million), the annual production of $5 billion in new business, $190 million in revenue and over $60 million in annual pre-tax income.
  • The incumbent has frequent direct contact with all levels of M&T senior management, including the M&TRCC Board of Directors and Executive Committee level.
  • The incumbent serves as M&TRCC’s primary liaison internally with Finance, and externally with Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, and GNMA, on all matters relating to M&TRCC’s financial condition and performance. As such, the incumbent must maintain strong working relationships with M&T’s Finance Department, Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, and GNMA.
  • From time to time, at the direction of Executive level senior management, the incumbent assists other business areas of the Bank by providing valuable financial analysis and other related support to assist such areas with their financial management projects or issues.
  • The incumbent manages a staff of twelve employees, most of who are at the Vice President or Senior Vice President level. The incumbent staff members handle all of M&TRCC’s financial results, commercial loan accounting activities, investor reporting activities, and technical support activities. They are directly responsible for controlling all of the company’s financial affairs, including accounting for all fund collections and disbursements relating to the company’s commercial mortgage banking business.
  • Provide counsel to and produce ad hoc business analysis and modeling to assist the CEO with business opportunities and proposals while outlining and understanding downstream impact of new initiatives and opportunities.
