Job Summary

This position is Full-time, 40hrs, M-F, 5-8hr shifts, 7a-3:30p, no night or weekend requirements.

The APP is a licensed provider. The APP is responsible for the assessment and management of various populations of patients, medical and/or surgical, including diagnostic and therapeutic interventions, development of appropriate plans of care, and ongoing evaluation.

MGB Neurology inpatient floors provide comprehensive, compassionate, and technologically advanced patient- and family-centered care including the most advanced diagnostics and treatments, education of future leaders in the field, quality improvement initiatives, and clinical research to develop new therapies

MGB Neurology is hiring an inpatient neurology APP (Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner) to deliver consistent, high-quality care to inpatients on the Lunder 7 and Lunder 8 Neuroscience inpatient floors at Massachusetts General Hospital.

In collaboration with the supervising attending physicians, the APP will provide direct patient care and management for patients admitted for the diagnosis and treatment of neurologic disease. Responsibilities include:
• Rounding with inpatient care team composed of attending physicians, APPs, fellows, and residents
• Perform and record complete history and physical examination for inpatient neurology patients.
• Examine and evaluate patients and assist in the development of their treatment plans.
• Participate in the daily inter-disciplinary care rounds and collaborate with inpatient nursing services to arrange for needed diagnostic tests and procedures.
• Write daily progress notes
• Procedures: NGT/dobhoff placement, lumbar punctures, and ABGs
• Interpret and apply lab data and other test results in patient care.
• Arrange and coordinate discharge plans by writing d/c orders, prescriptions, and post-admission teaching for patients and/or families.
• Respond to clinical questions from nurses and/or patients in a timely manner (responding clinician for approximately 8-10 patients/day).

Non-Clinical Duties and Responsibilities:
• Demonstrates professional collaborative and consultative relationships with other providers
• Follows all designated prescriptive practices and monitoring requirements with the designated supervising physician and administrative report
• Participates in departmental and organizational committees and programs as appropriate and attends all required meetings, in-services, and professional trainings
• Maintains superior interpersonal and communication skills as a member of the healthcare team to collaborate effectively with patients, families, staff, and community health workers
• Remains actively involved in continuing education with a commitment to self and departmental growth
• Adheres to all established safety policies, procedures, and precautions; identifies potential or actual unsafe situations in the environment and takes measures to rectify the situation
• Demonstrates understanding of procedures, policies, and documentation required to ensure compliance with hospital standards of care
• Additional duties and responsibilities as required by the department/division

Academic Responsibilities:
• Attend appropriate Neurology seminars, conferences, lectures, and other forums to support continuing medical education as approved by the Division leadership Provides teaching to medical students and physician assistant students and other health care personnel as appropriate
• Participates in quality improvement efforts and research efforts as directed by the service leadership
• Partakes in PA and Neurology Resident teaching opportunities through discussion of clinical cases and other educational sessions
• Participates in the PA student education program in Neurology
• Participates PA grand rounds and or other educational forums on the topic of neurology
• Communicates openly with supervising physicians and Department/Division leadership to improve patient, family, and care team satisfaction
• Performs other duties as assigned

The Ideal Candidate will have:
• 1-2 years of neuro APP experience, preferred
• Inpatient neurology experience, preferred
• Prescriptive authority for controlled substances in MA (MCSR),
