Summary:

The Center for Student Involvement (CSI) is the hub for the student experience at American University. CSI facilitates leadership development, organizational advising, and programs that help foster a sense of belonging for the next generation of changemakers. Our office is home to Student Government, Student Activities Council, Student Media, Student Organizations, Fraternity & Sorority Life, and the Graduate Leadership Council.

The Programming Graduate Student Assistant is a member of the Center for Student Involvement team who is responsible for co-advising the Student Activities Council (SAC) programming boards (Kennedy Political Union, Students for Change, Student Union Board, and Spirit & Traditions Council) in the areas of event planning, leadership training, and risk management. The position will also support signature Center for Student Involvement Welcome Week and Late Night & Weekend programs.

Responsibilities:

  • Co-advise the SAC programming board(s) with the Assistant Director of Program Initiatives,.

  • Providing support for internal and external communications, and day of event support.

  • Responsible for supporting CSI programs and initiatives, through planning, execution, and assessment of events

  • Collaborate with other departments and student organizations, to develop engaging programs that foster connection and community 

  • Assist with managing social media accounts and creating marketing materials for events.

  • Attend weekly meetings with the Assistant Director of Program Initiatives and CSI Staff meetings

Position Type/Expected Hours Of Work:

  • Part-Time.

  • 15 hours per week.

  • Some nights and weekends required.

Salary Range:

  • $18.50 per hour.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelors degree required.

  • Experience with managing events and leadership development.
