Pratt & Whitney’s Compression Systems Engineering (CSE) organization is currently seeking highly motivated Structures Engineer with a desire to learn Impact Dynamics. Engineer will support both commercial and military engine programs from technology development through operational support, with a focus on fan module hardware.
Key Responsibilities:
- Work closely with experienced Impact Dynamics engineers to develop skill set, progressing to independent Impact Dynamics representation within an Integrated Product Team and aid in material selection, solid modeling, and design of sub-element components for test
- Validation of subscale and full-scale static, dynamic and impact tests as well as application of state-of-the-art finite element-based methods to aid in design and validation of fan module structures.
- Application of nonlinear, explicit dynamics methods to accurately simulate bird strike, blade-off, and containment events. Correlation of results against rotating rig & full engine tests, and field events.
- Documentation and presentation of results to internal and external customers as well as coordination with experts to advance technology and improve efficiency of engineering processes and methods
- Assistance in manufacturing process development at suppliers to ensure the manufacturability of component designs.
- Application of CORE (Customer Oriented Results & Competitive Excellence) tools
Basic Qualifications:
- B.S. in Engineering or related field and 5+ years prior relevant experience, OR
- An Advanced Degree in a related field with 3+ years of experience
- The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required.
- U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
- 10% Travel is Anticipated
Preferred Qualifications:
- Advanced Degree in Mechanical, Materials, Aerospace, or Manufacturing Engineering
- Demonstrated proficiency in finite element modeling & analysis of geometrically complex components & assemblies which span static & dynamic analysis.
- FEA Software experience (LS-DYNA, Hypermesh ANSYS, NASTRAN, Abaqus, PATRAN)
- CAD Software experience (NX, TeamCenter)
- Material characterization, testing, and non-destructive inspection methods.
- Experience with composite design and analysis
