Position Summary

Leonardo DRS in in Dallas, Texas is seeking a Operationally-minded Leader to fill the role of Value Stream Manager (VSM) for Electro-Optical/Infrared (EO/IR) Sensors in Leonardo DRS’ Dallas Sensors Factory. 

The candidate must be an experienced Operations Leader with accountability for deployment of manufacturing operations strategy, control systems, tools, and metrics to accurately measure progress and drive continuous improvement.

Basic Qualifications and Required Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Management, Engineering or related technical field with a minimum of 5 years’ related experience
  • Knowledge of program management tools and procedures 
  • Solid leadership and management skills 
  • Exposure to program lifecycle from development through sustainment to include: proposal development, requirements decomposition, generation of system and subsystem statements of work and subcontracts, risk management, and continuous improvement efforts including implementation cost reduction and performance improvement efforts 
  • Exposure to earned value cost accounting and reporting; experience with metrics for assessing and reporting program progress, productivity and variance analysis 
  • Exposure to finance, contracting, export regulations, engineering, logistics, manufacturing and supply chain management 
  • Strong customer interface skills 
  • Solid problem solving skills 
  • Strong presentation skills 
  • Exposure to managing manpower planning, project reviews, scheduling and budget control 
  • Ability to manage aerospace/defense programs as a prime or subcontractor to a domestic or foreign military organization 
  • Strong oral and written communication skills 
  • Program Management certification preferred (i.e. PMP or DAU)
  • Ability to obtain and retain a security clearance is required

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Experience with Lean Manufacturing concepts and implementation
  • Understanding and utilization of business system tools and working knowledge of Microsoft Office (i.e., Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
  • Experience in Manufacturing or engineering in the aerospace/defense industry
  • Understanding of an Operations Environment (TAKT, Line Balancing, Value Stream Mapping, MRP)
  • Experience with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems, specifically Deltek Costpoint desirable
  • Experience using Manufacturing Requirements Planning (MRP) and leading manufacturing with MRP desirable

Job Duties and Responsibilities

The VSM is responsible for products or programs within a manufacturing workflow. This leader will be responsible for supporting both development and production programs. This position will be responsible for factory takt plans, customer requirements, and MRP alignment. It will be essential for this position to build a trusting relationship with customers to ensure that the flowed down MRP demand is maintained so that a smooth continual production rate can be achieved for the factory. This candidate must exhibit the leadership ability to direct a cross functional team to implement process improvement and waste reduction strategies within the product value stream. The candidate must have the ability to analyze key performance metrics and utilize this data to establish and implement cost improvement projects and root cause corrective action activities. It is imperative the VSM has a comprehensive understanding of all aspects of the production organization concerned with the assembly and processing operations including a thorough understanding of manufacturing related policies/procedures, and quality and customer requirements. This includes but is not limited to the following responsibilities: 

  • Control cost through lean manufacturing practices and the effective utilization of reduction of rework, scrap and waste
  • Create and maintain working relationships with functional leaders providing employees to programs, relationships with customers with respect to production planning, problem resolution, and process improvement
  • Perform strategic planning, develop relationships and achieve buy-in from all relevant parties for strategy and vision for the value stream with excellent organizational, planning, and executi
