The opportunity

Michelin is seeking a Senior Analytical Chemist to focus on analyzing substances and items for our tire and material development sectors. You will join a team dedicated to the chemical characterizations of our products and materials.

The analytical chemists support product designers by being knowledgeable about and comprehending the chemical properties of tire components and goods. This knowledge is applied through the utilization of analytical tools, test methods, and microscopic evaluations in addition to as-needed support. Our Analytical Chemists use their curiosity and analytical skills to help develop the next great Michelin products.

Situated in Greenville, South Carolina, the sprawling Michelin Americas Research Center (MARC) campus is home to approximately 650 talented employees, including materials researchers, product designers, scientists, engineers, test technicians and individuals in a variety of support roles.

Our team contributes to developing, testing, and industrializing the innovative products that earn Michelin’s deserving place as one of the world’s leading tire manufacturers.

What you will do:

. Carry out a diverse set of primary and advanced analytical analyses applying tools such as SEM/EDS, Optical Microscopes and Imaging software, FTIR and other chemical techniques. Provide relevant microscopic and chemical evaluations and interpretation of materials and products to the Michelin designers and material experts that explore different areas of tire development and performance. Provide fact-based information and results to design and development teams with the goal of accelerating the product development cycle.

. Work in a chemical laboratory environment

. Collaborate with other experts and departments to resolve quality issues

Successful applicants will be trained within Michelin in the following Analytical area:

·        Microscopy

·        Scanning Electron Microscopy

·        Imaging Techniques

·        Sample preparation and evaluation of materials

·        Various other Chemical techniques such as FTIR, XRF, Particle Size Analyses, etc

Key expected achievements:

·        Microscopic Experience

·        Experience in Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM/EDS)

·        Transmit and share knowledge (reports, training)

What you will bring/learn on the job:

Technical knowledge:

·        In-depth understanding and proficiency in chemistry, scanning electron microscopy and microscopy tools and applications.

·        Knowledge of Design & Development techniques and a willingness to learn and apply more.

·        Interpretation of data/findings

·        Root cause investigations/analysis

·        Ability to capture needs from teammates and propose solutions (testing plans).

Additional requirements:

·        BS or MS degree in Chemistry, Material or Polymer Science or related degree and 1-5 years’ experience, along with a proven desire for working in a chemical laboratory environment.

·        Previous experience with analytical chemistry instrumentation, including Microscopy, SEM, FTIR.

·        Excellent use of scientific methods, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills

·        Strong verbal and written communication skills
