GENERAL DESCRIPTION 

The Assistant Director of Student Engagement works directly with the Associate Dean and Director of Campus Life to facilitate the operations of student programming, provide support to Student Senate and various student clubs and organizations, and assist with other Campus Life programs and services as needed. This position provides direction and support for several Campus Life programs which facilitate student engagement, campus involvement, and student leadership.  This is a live-on position, will participate in the on-call duty schedule on a rotating basis, and respond to crises when appropriate.

The Assistant Director is expected to take an active role in the continued development of the Campus Life department. They should be a visible and approachable campus presence, committed to working with students on creating a vibrant co-curricular experience, and supportive of the varying needs of the diverse campus community. The person in this role must be a student advocate, self-starter, open-minded, innovative, conscious of Pitzer’s core values, caring of student mental health, and committed to social justice. They should be interested in working on a student-driven campus that has a strong student voice in all levels of the college governance and campus-life.

  • Oversee Campus Life Student Engagement development and programs to foster community and belonging among all students. This includes, but is not limited to:
    • Leading Student Engagement team of 10 student leaders; facilitating on-going team meetings; developing and assessing leader goals and learning
    • Executing consistent and meaningful campus-wide programming for the general student body
    • Collaborating with various campus departments (i.e. Strive2Thrive, Writing Center, CAPAS, OSA, ResLife, Athletics, Facilities, Advancement, etc.) to create opportunities for engagement and connection
    • Assessing current campus and community needs to create programming that addresses gaps so all students are included (i.e. Fall Break, Spring Break, study and mental health breaks, etc.) 
    • Liaising with campus partners and student groups to coordinate and support programs and  initiatives to support the diverse needs and experiences of all Pitzer students.

  • Develop and maintain student leadership development for all Pitzer student organizations and Campus Life student leaders.  This includes, but is not limited to:
    • Training, facilitating, and assessing Campus Life student leader learning and growth
    • Serving as the Campus Life liaison to Student Senate’s Vice President of Student Engagement (VPSE) to develop proc
