General Notes

Assistant or Associate Athletic Trainer may be hired based on experience, qualifications and candidate selected for the position. Additional hours will be required to include early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays. This job is not suitable for remote work and is expected to work regular on-site hours.  Some travel required.

Purpose

Assist the Chief Medical Officer and Assistant Athletics Director for Sports Medicine in servicing the medical needs of student-athletes with special reference to the care, prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries.

Responsibilities

• Provide primary medical coverage for athletic teams (i.e. Beach Volleyball) as assigned by the Chief Medical Officer to include all practices, home and away competitions, and host events. Assist in designing, initiating and progressing rehabilitation programs as needed according to the changing health status of injured/ill athletes.

• Assist in the design and implementation of exercise and rehabilitation programs for student-athletes with medical conditions and test results that warrant such programs.

• Assist in maintaining electronic medical records. Evaluate readiness to compete.

• Facilitate cross-disciplinary collaboration by working with relevant allied health disciplines (i.e., chiropractic, nutrition, massage therapy, etc.) in the pursuit of health care solutions. Work within the confines of institutional policies and NCAA rules with regards to medical expense coverage. Coordinate drug testing of student-athletes in accordance with institutional, Big XII, and NCAA regulations.

• Supervise and train undergraduate athletic training students and Sports Medicine Aides as assigned. Work cooperatively with other staff, coaches and department personnel.

• Perform other related duties as assigned by the Chief Medical Officer and Assistant Athletics Director for Sports Medicine. Drive a UT and/or rental vehicle on and off campus.

Annually obtain prior written approval and report all outside activities and outside income. Report knowledge of, or reasonable cause to believe, violation(s) of state or federal laws, policies, rules, or regulations of the University, Conference, or NCAA to IA ARMCS or IA HR. Fully cooperate with any investigation by providing complete and accurate information when requested to do so by Texas Athletics and/or the NCAA and do not influence others in any way during an investigation. Required Qualifications

Master's Degree. Licensed Athletic Trainer by Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (or eligible). NATABOC certification. Excellent communication skills (verbal and written). Strong interpersonal skills. Demonstrated ability to effectively work in teams. Strong organization and problem-solving skills. Proven effectiveness in cross-disciplinary collaboration both inside (in other units and functions) and outside the organization. Experience
