Physician Assistant-QHC-13570-002

Acts under the general supervision of the Director of Service or an assigned Attending. Performs routine histories and physical examinations; performs and/or interprets diagnostic tests and/or procedures as detailed in the department specific scope of care. Provides care to patients of all ages. Primarily outpatient clinic-based with some inpatient responsibilities.

1. Performs complete patient histories and physician examinations; orders laboratory tests and x-ray; performs and/or interprets laboratory and test results. Assists in performing routine examinations and inpatient/emergency department consults. Writes appropriate prescriptions with the countersignature of an Attending. 
2. May assists in Ambulatory Surgery or outpatient procedures under the supervision of an attending physician.
3. Performs other duties pursuant to clinical responsibility, such as arranging follow up for patient, obtaining information from patient, recalling patients for further evaluation and treatment. Informs patient of necessary post discharge instructions as required.  Logs appropriate documentation in patient’s charts. 

1. Job requires completion of NYS-approved program for training of physician assistant/associate studies. 
2. Registration with New York State as Physician Assistant/Associate. Certification with National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistant/Associate. 
3. High levels of analytical ability required to effectively and expeditiously diagnose and treat medical/surgical problems under the direction of a physician.
4. Interacts with various internal hospital medical, administrative and professional staff in the course of routine clinical duties. High degree of responsibility required for daily contact with patients and their families.
