Job Overview

The UX Copywriter develops strategic, meaningful, and persuasive copy that guides users through Macy’s site and app experiences. They own the copywriting process from initial discovery through production and implementation, playing a critical role in shaping the customer experience with clear, concise, and engaging content. Drawing on customer insights and a strong sense of curiosity about shopper behavior, the UX Copywriter crafts nuanced copy that reflects Macy’s brand strategy and demonstrates an understanding of customer wants and needs. Curious, innovative, and conceptually driven, they thrive in collaborative environments and engage in healthy debate to create exceptional work.

 

What You Will Do

  • Write clear, concise, and compelling copy that simplifies the customer experience, keeps users engaged, and minimizes errors and confusion.
  • Apply strong writing skills and content design expertise to maintain a consistent voice and tone across all product content, aligning with the overall brand identity.
  • Develop and implement forward-thinking content strategies that meet user needs while supporting business goals and brand objectives across digital touchpoints.
  • Optimize copy for usability and accessibility, ensuring content is easy to understand, action-oriented, and inclusive for all users.
  • Apply SEO best practices where applicable, and use data to continuously improve content performance and effectiveness.
  • Collaborate closely with designers, researchers, product managers, and developers—adapting to stakeholder feedback and influencing decisions through strong communication.
  • Plan, prioritize, and organize a high volume of work to meet deadlines and project milestones.
  • Proofread and self-edit to deliver accurate, high-quality content, and openly share work and thought processes with team members for alignment and feedback.
  • Foster an environment of acceptance and respect that strengthens relationships, and ensures authentic connections with colleagues, customers, and communities. 
  • In addition to the essential duties mentioned above, other duties may be assigned.

 

Skills You Will Need

UX Writing & Content Design: Ability to write clear, concise, and compelling interface copy (e.g., dialogs, tooltips, error messages) that enhances usability and guides users effectively through digital experiences.

Content Strategy: Strong strategic thinking to develop and implement content approaches that align with business objectives and user needs across the entire customer journey.

User-Centered Design: Deep understanding of UX/UI principles and how content fits into the larger design system to deliver intuitive, user-first experiences.

Accessibility: Knowledge of accessibility standards and best practices, including writing content that works with screen readers and supports inclusive design.

Data-Driven Decision Making: Familiarity with user testing, usability research, and analytics to inform copy decisions and continuously improve content effectiveness.

SEO Optimization: Ability to apply SEO best practices where appropriate to enhance content discoverability and performance.

Collaboration: Exceptional collaboration skills to work cross-functionally with designers, researchers, product managers, and developers in a fast-paced environment.

Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication abilities to explain content decisions, align with brand voice, and influence stakeholder direction.

Project Management: Strong organizational skills to manage high volumes of work, prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and adapt to changing priorities.

Tool Proficiency: Proficient in Figma and familiar with UI wireframing and other tools used in the digital product development lifecycle.

Adaptability: Ability to work independently and collaboratively, remaining flexible and proactive within an agile, iterative development environment.
