The Senior Manager, Communications & Marketing will report to the Director of Communications for Ford Philanthropy and work closely with the organization’s program teams, as well as colleagues in Ford’s Corporate Communications, Marketing, and Dealer Engagement business units. They will build deep relationships with these organizations, as well as Ford Philanthropy program teams, providing excellent ongoing communications counsel, and delivering strategic communications initiatives designed to advance organizational goals. 

What you'll do…

Leadership and Counsel 

  • Leads cross-functional workstreams with Corporate Communications, Marketing and Dealer Engagement to integrate Ford Philanthropy’s messaging, programming, and point of view. 
  • Directs communications strategy for Ford Volunteer Corps, the company’s global volunteer program. 
  • Serves as strategic communications lead for key program areas, offering advice on communication strategies to advance core organizational objectives. 
  • Assists in development of executive communications for President and Ford Philanthropy leadership team. 
  • Assesses ongoing reputational risk and crisis management.  

Planning, Capacity-building and Messaging 

  • Develops communications plans for the foundation’s unique programs and partnerships  
  • Researches and writes key communication materials, including messaging, fact sheets, press releases, talking points and other marketing material that communicates the foundation’s work 
  • Works to strengthen the communications capacity of all foundation program staff by developing, enhancing and delivering key learning tools, resources and workshops 
  • Provides prep and support for media interviews, speaking engagements, and more 

Managing Vendors 

  • Manages selection and operations of communications consultants, collaborating with program teams to shape contracts and provide ongoing support. 
  • Manages a pool of preferred communications consultants and facilitates successful partnerships between external communications firms and program teams. 
     

You'll have…

  • BA/BS plus 10 years of experience in communications, or an equivalent combination of education and experience 
  • Strong knowledge of strategic communications, marketing and branding 
  • Strong project management skills, including managing multiple stakeholders, consultants, and project- based teams from concept to execution

  • Experience developing and implementing successful communications strategies to advance social change work  
  • Strong understanding of digital platforms related to communications; and the range of media outlets, including web-based and social media 
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills  
  • Proven analytical and research skills  
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills, particularly working on a fast-paced team 
  • Ability to travel for business purposes
