Phlebotomist

Under general supervision, responsible for providing phlebotomy services for the phlebotomy team.
Properly identifies patient according to policy, draws blood samples, labels specimens and sends to laboratory for analysis. Maintains records of tests performed and samples taken. Generates patient collection lists and labels, ensures the correct test are collected by using inquiry mode, verifying collection of all specimens, and labels STATS with stickers. Checks collection batches and overdue lists frequently and ensures that all orders are promptly collected. Performs special tests to include clotting time, bleeding time and glucose tolerance tests as needed and reports results. Inventories supplies, equipment and requisitions as needed. Stocks workstation with necessary supplies. Performs all other duties as assigned.
Ability to provide compassionate care to patients. Ability to apply standard safety and infection control procedures. Ability to recognize emergencies and respond appropriately. Highly organized and detailed oriented in documenting information while practicing good follow-through techniques. Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills. Computer proficiency inclusive of ability to access, enter, and interpret data or related information.
EDUCATION:
- High School degree or GED is required.
EXPERIENCE:
- One (1) year experience drawing blood specimens; or, any equivalent combination of education and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved is required.
