DTU Physics invites applications for a faculty position in optical quantum information. The position is open at the level of Associate Professor or Tenure Track Assistant Professor, depending on the qualifications and experience of the applicant.
The position is intended to strengthen DTU Physics’ activities in quantum optics, photonic quantum technologies, and quantum information science. We seek an outstanding researcher with the ambition and ability to develop an internationally leading research programme within optical quantum information, and to contribute to the continued development of DTU as a strong hub for quantum science and technology.
The successful candidate will join a dynamic and highly collaborative quantum research environment at DTU Physics. The position is based in the Quantum Physics and Information Technology section and at bigQ – Center for Macroscopic Quantum States, a Danish National Center of Excellence in quantum information science and technology. The role is embedded within a broad and active ecosystem of quantum technology initiatives spanning DTU, national Danish programs, European research collaborations, and partnerships with industry.
Scientific profile
The position is broadly defined within optical quantum information. We are looking for a candidate who can bring new expertise, vision, and leadership to this area, while complementing and strengthening existing activities at DTU Physics.
Current research activities at DTU Physics include continuous-variable quantum optics, optical quantum communication, quantum key distribution, photonic quantum information processing, field sensing via solid state defects (in particular color centers in diamond), optical quantum sensing, and optomechanics.
A particularly important strategic goal is to strengthen our expertise in integrated quantum photonics. We therefore especially encourage applicants with strong expertise in photonic integration, scalable optical quantum platforms, quantum photonic circuits, chip-based quantum light sources, detectors, interfaces, or related enabling technologies for optical quantum information processing. However, the call is intentionally broad, and excellent candidates within the wider field of optical quantum information are encouraged to apply.
Responsibilities and qualifications
The successful candidate is expected to:
- establish and lead an internationally visible research activity in optical quantum information;
- publish high-impact research at the highest international level;
- attract external funding from national, European, and international funding sources;
- contribute to the strategic development of quantum science and technology at DTU Physics;
- collaborate with existing quantum research activities at DTU;
- supervise BSc, MSc, PhD students and postdoctoral researchers;
- contribute to research-based teaching in quantum optics, quantum information, photonics, or basic physics courses;
- support the development of DTU’s quantum education portfolio;
- engage with academic, industrial, and technology-transfer partners;
- contribute to a collegial, ambitious, and inclusive research environment.
You must be responsible for the teaching of courses. DTU employs two working languages: Danish and English. You are expected to be fluent in at least one of these languages, and in time are expected to master both.
As a formal qualification you must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent). If you are applying for the associate professor position you should also have academic qualifications equivalent to those obtained by holding an assistant professorship and documented didactic/pedagogic training.
