About the role

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Sr. R&D Service Engineer to join our AFT Engineering team to provide maintenance support to the Grimes Seed Handling Hub.

In this key role, you will be responsible for providing critical industrial equipment maintenance and troubleshooting support for a variety of custom and off-the shelf automated packaging and material handling equipment in support of the Grimes Seed Handling Hub operations.  As part of the Maintenance Team, you will collaborate closely with SPD Operations, AFT Engineering, EHS and external vendors to ensure reliable and safe operation of our equipment and systems.

The ideal candidate will possess strong technical expertise and experience with mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and advanced control systems in a highly automated, high-throughput environment.

Responsibilities:

  • As a key member of the Maintenance Team, support daily hub operations by ensuring equipment and systems are in safe, optimal working condition. 
  • Perform hands-on troubleshooting and repair of any equipment or systems malfunctioning or not performing to specification based on prioritization from the Operations team.
  • Coordinate support from the AFT Engineering team or third-party vendors for Level III support issues.
  • Develop Preventative Maintenance tasks and schedules for all equipment and document in the CMMS system.  Perform equipment PM’s during the off season.
  • Responsible for the organization of the equipment, tools and spare parts in the Maintenance Crib. 
  • Ensure adequate on-hand inventories and tracking of all critical spare parts and coordinate the ordering of any needed parts.
  • Maintain and update the CMMS system for equipment work orders, spare parts management, and preventative maintenance scheduling.
  • Ensure compliance with all Corteva safety policies and procedures and assist with documentation and implementation of safety programs.
  • Help coordinate any on-site facilities activities being performed by FSRE or 3rd party contractors.  Ensure the appropriate permits are in place and all activities are being performed safely.
  • Support special projects and continuous improvement activities within the facility as requested.

Education

  • Two-year Associate degree in applicable technical program or 5 years’ experience in an industrial maintenance support role

Skills Required

  • Demonstrated ability to maintain and systematically troubleshoot automated packaging and material handling equipment.  The types of equipment to be supported include custom packaging equipment, conveyors, autonomous vehicles, robotics, sorters, vision systems and electrical controls systems.
  • Hands-on experience with the tools and equipment necessary to perform mechanical, electrical and pneumatic repairs and troubleshooting
  • Ability to prioritize competing requests and work independently
  • Experience diagnosing and working on electrical systems up to 50VDC and 460VAC.
  • Ability to interpret electrical and pneumatic schematics
  • Working knowledge of CMMS systems for tracking work orders, PM’s and spare parts
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office suite of products
  • Basic knowledge of integrated software control systems and networks
  • Willing and able to perform the following tasks with or without reasonable accommodation: climb and/or work in elevated areas; stand or sit for extended periods; work in a refrigerated environment for extended periods; lift up to forty-five (45) pounds.
  • Possess strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills and willing to work independently or as part of a team

Skills Desired

  • Familiarity with PLC’s and their programming with the ability to troubleshoot equipment using PLC code
  • Proficiency using CAD and 3-D modeling software
  • Past experience setting up, configuring, and populating CMMS systems
  • Experience maintaining and troubleshooting SCARA robots and autonomous vehicles in an industrial environment
  • Experience supporting vision systems
  • Knowledgeable in setting up and troubleshooting hi-speed industrial inkjet printers
  • Experience using fabrication equipment (drill press, lathe, mill, bandsaw, welder, grinder)
  • Exposure to WMS, WCS and WES software systems

Site Dedicated (100% at Corteva):

  • This role will be on site at our Corteva location in Grimes, IA.
  • Occasional overtime and Saturday work required during the busy season (January – April)
