Overview:

    The Senior Network Engineer position install, configures and supports the organizations local area network (LAN), wide area network (WAN). Monitors the network to ensure network availability to all system users and may perform necessary maintenance to support network availability. Monitor, update and test remote sites functionality.

  The candidate will be part of a Network Engineering team for our federal customer and will provide Network support for a large Cisco enterprise environment, which consists of classified, and top-secret networks. The team ensures the availability of a reliable/robust network transport infrastructure that provides data protection for information delivered across strategic, operational and tactical boundaries.

 The candidate mentors’ junior IT staff on systems integration and operations, ensuring system compatibility and configuration standards are maintained. Promotes IT best practices and adherence to DOD practices and security policy

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the architecture and design of the customer's information systems are functional and secure. 
  • Provide system or network designs that encompass multiple computers and networks to include those with differing data protections/classification requirements.
  • Develops test and integration plans for new systems and software in order to ensure compatibility with current IT infrastructure.  
  • Provides operational support and maintenance, when necessary, to ensure systems functionality, availability, security, and performance.
  • Ensures all systems meet or exceed the business and security requirements in accordance with   DOD directives and guidelines.
  • Mentors junior staff and coordinates work assignments of junior administrators to ensure project schedules are maintained.
  • Prepares technical documentation, to include standard operating procedures and processes as well as Visio diagrams Develops resolutions to complex problems that require the frequent use of creativity.
  • Coordinates resources to resolve problems when necessary. Administers and maintains classified networks and telecommunication systems and services to ensure optimum performance and availability.
  • Maintains technical proficiency in new IT technologies; keeps abreast of industry trends and makes recommendations to improve or advance services and system performance.
  • Communicates all computer network, system and service problems and outages immediately to the appropriate chain of command Interact and coordinate with Service providers for new circuit installation, upgrade or existing circuit move.
  • Assist the Help Desk in network troubleshooting. Performs other duties as assigned which entails traveling to different sites to upgrade or install network equipment.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science or related field coupled with eight years minimum experience in Information Technology, which includes at least six years in network administration OR high school diploma with ten years minimum experience in Information Technology, which includes at least six years in network administration.
  • Possess advanced, subject matter expertise in IP-based network and telecommunication system design, administration, and support, preferably •
  •  Experience with Cisco IOS/NX-OS
  • Experience with Cisco ISE
  • Experience with Cisco VOIP/VTC and knowledge of CUCM and Cisco CMS server
  • Strong hands-on experience of over 6 Years in installing, configuring, and troubleshooting 
  •  Experience with Cisco devices such as Nexus 7000, 9000, ASR 1000, Cisco 4331 series routers as well as Cisco Firepower
  • Experience in configuring VPC, VTP, 802.1q, VLAN, Ether Channel, LACP, Access list
  • Extensive experience with OSPF, BGP dynamic routing protocols.
  • Understanding of MPLS and DMVPN Hub and Spoke technology
  • Must be organized, self-motivated and able to work with minimal to no supervision.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both written and verbal form and with all levels of employees; possess good interpersonal skills.
  • Familiarity with Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs) to maintain the
    security standard of network devices
  •  Experience with GEM X/ TACLANE network Type 1 Encryptors
  • Project management experience is a plus
  • Some experience in SolarWinds and Splunk
  • Create SOP and be familiar with Visio

     Certification:

  •  Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP), preferred
  •  Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) with 6 years’ experience
  •  CompTIA Security+,  
  • SolarWinds and Splunk certification is a plus
