Our CAAS practice is looking for an Assistant Controller to join our growing Retail Industry team based out of either our Des Moines or Cedar Rapids, IA office location.

As a member of CLA’s CAAS practice, you will provide accounting services to CLA's construction industry clients in the local city area and will be a key part of our client service teams. You will work directly with clients to provide customized accounting and finance services to support them as they grow their business.

Job Responsibilities:

• Act as and manage the designated function(s) for the client.

• Accountable for identifying and implementing best practices related to the service(s) provided to add value to the client.

• Develop full knowledge of GAAP (FASB/SFAS) and deep understanding of financial and operational aspects of their specific industry.

• Record and analyze client’s financial information.

• Analyze and interpret financial information that client leaders need to make sound business decisions.

• Prepare financial reports for other groups (creditors, regulatory agencies, and tax authorities, and more).

• Review and monitor costs inherent in the business.

• Schedule expenditures, analyze variances, and identify corrective actions when necessary.

• Independently prepare financial statements.

• Meet financial objectives by forecasting requirements, prepares budgets, schedules expenditures, analyzes variances, and initiates corrective actions when necessary.

Required Education/Experience/Abilities:

• Education: Bachelor's degree is required. Combination of related experience, education, and training may be accepted in lieu of degree.

• Experience: 4 years of experience as a Senior Accountant, Assistant Controller, Senior Auditor or equivalent. Relevant retail industry experience is highly preferred.

• Heavy user of accounting software (e.g., Microsoft Excel, QuickBooks, Intacct, Bill.com, Expensify, Fathom, etc.).

• CPA preferred, but not required

• Travel: This position works primarily in office, as well as frequent local travel to/from local area client sites and may require occasional non-local or overnight travel for client visits, training, meetings and/or other business-related purposes.
