Our CAAS practice is looking for an Assistant Controller to join our growing Retail Industry team based out of either our Des Moines or Cedar Rapids, IA office location.
As a member of CLA’s CAAS practice, you will provide accounting services to CLA's construction industry clients in the local city area and will be a key part of our client service teams. You will work directly with clients to provide customized accounting and finance services to support them as they grow their business.

Job Responsibilities:
Act as and manage the designated function(s) for the client.
Accountable for identifying and implementing best practices related to the service(s) provided to add value to the client.
Develop full knowledge of GAAP (FASB/SFAS) and deep understanding of financial and operational aspects of their specific industry.
Record and analyze client’s financial information.
Analyze and interpret financial information that client leaders need to make sound business decisions.
Prepare financial reports for other groups (creditors, regulatory agencies, and tax authorities, and more).
Review and monitor costs inherent in the business.
Schedule expenditures, analyze variances, and identify corrective actions when necessary.
Independently prepare financial statements.
Meet financial objectives by forecasting requirements, prepares budgets, schedules expenditures, analyzes variances, and initiates corrective actions when necessary.
Required Education/Experience/Abilities:
Education: Bachelor's degree is required. Combination of related experience, education, and training may be accepted in lieu of degree.
Experience: 4 years of experience as a Senior Accountant, Assistant Controller, Senior Auditor or equivalent. Relevant retail industry experience is highly preferred.
Heavy user of accounting software (e.g., Microsoft Excel, QuickBooks, Intacct, Bill.com, Expensify, Fathom, etc.).
CPA preferred, but not required
Travel: This position works primarily in office, as well as frequent local travel to/from local area client sites and may require occasional non-local or overnight travel for client visits, training, meetings and/or other business-related purposes.
