The Phlebotomist Coordinator is responsible for all phlebotomy and clerical functions of the department. The coordinator will ensure timely completion of departmental day-to-day activities including all specimen collections, assisting with reference tests, and ensuring accurate and thorough data entry of patient information.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTION/COMPETENCIES
- Responsibilities include but are not limited to: ?
- Responsible for staff schedules. ?
- Assists with staff performance appraisals. ?
- Maintains department files. ?
- Coordinates departmental purchasing and is able to follow-up with problems in this area making sure that all purchases are handled accurately. ?
- Supports the department by performing phlebotomy as needed. ?
- Phlebotomist for the phlebotomy clinic and supporting phlebotomist to medical assistants in the rest of the practice
- Processing and accessioning of blood, urine, and biopsies specimens collected in the clinic and ambulatory surgery center
- Entering patient information into electronic health records (EHR)
- Shipping of specimens to appropriate outside laboratories
- Maintains documentation of specimens collected and sample destinations
- Maintains inventory of phlebotomy and shipping supplies and orders supplies as needed
Licensure Requirements:
Washinton State Medical Assistant-Phlebotomy License (MA-P) or Washington State Medical Assistants-Certified License (MA-C
Experience:
1 year phlebotomy and 1 year of lab assistant or lab accessioning experience in a clinical laboratory required. Experience with EPIC and Orchard LIS preferred.
