Senior Engineering Manager, Control Systems 

As part of the Core Systems Engineering organization, this leader will support a seasoned backend team focused on customer configuration management and propagation to the edge.  Since the services this team supports are central to Fastly’s customer configuration support, this will involve working with numerous internal Fastly teams to support critical business initiatives.  

You will cultivate an inclusive and cohesive team environment that enables your team to grow and do their best work.  You will manage team dependencies, build roadmaps, and work with your team to define clear goals.  You will interface with multiple stakeholders including security partners, hardware teams, support teams, and product management to prioritize the most impactful work for your engineers.

• Provide mentorship and career development opportunities for your team members
• Balance the tradeoffs in technical approaches to prioritize both scalability and customer stability
• Provide context to technical conversations that drives clear goals and prioritization
• Build and maintain close partnerships with stakeholders that enable your team to deliver effectively 
• Clearly communicate upward and outward to set and adjust expectations with your partners

What we’re looking for 

• 10+ years of hands-on engineering experience in a relevant technical discipline with proven experience maintaining and delivering production software for back-end or systems software
• 4+ years experience leading teams that design, build, scale and maintain distributed systems
• Proven success leading and building cohesive teams that execute effectively within a distributed environment
• Ability to simultaneously advocate for business goals, customer value, and developer happiness
• Proven success managing complex technical projects with various interdependencies 
• Flexibility in working both within and outside of agile, with the goal of planning and executing project deliveries effectively
• Effective communication skills for working across the organization, including the ability to build positive relationships with peers and leadership
• Track record leveraging metrics to set goals and measure success of teams and tier 0 systems

 

Work Hours: 

This position will require you to be available during core business hours and occasional nights and weekends as needed for on-call escalation..

Fastly currently embraces a largely hybrid model for most roles which allows employees flexibility to split their time between the office and home. We are not currently considering remote candidates for this position.

Salary:

The estimated salary range for this position is $211,370 to $253,644

Starting salary may vary based on permissible, non-discriminatory factors such as experience, skills, qualifications, and location.

This role may be eligible to participate in Fastly’s equity and discretionary bonus programs.
