About the Role

The New York Times is hiring a product leader with deep technical product management and product development experience to lead the Product function for our Data Platform organization. This team builds and supports centralized data products, analytics tools and infrastructure used by 100+ analysts and data scientists across the company to support all NYT’s data-driven decision-making workflows. This includes products like our data warehouse infrastructure, ELT frameworks and tooling, core data products used by analysts, our machine learning platform, our experimentation platform and more. Your role will be to develop the product function within this organization and manage a team of Product Managers. You will report to the Senior Vice President, Data Platform for NY Times. You can work remotely in this role.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop a multi-year strategic roadmap for all data products, analytics tooling and data infrastructure products.

  • Advocate for Data Platform and Data Engineering to engineering teams across the company, advancing key strategic goals such as centralization of our core data products, accelerating our ability to learn from experiments and scaling our ability to use ML to optimize KPIs.

  • Collaborate with engineering, analytics, data science and product leadership to lead planning cycles with team goals, own customer adoption, and track platform value and performance metrics.

  • Mentor a team of 3 product directors and their reports, while establishing a product culture suited to the unique technical requirements of this team.

  • Develop a product strategy in an internal customer-facing technical space and communicate the rationale to both technical and non-technical partners.

Basic Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of relevant product management experience

  • 4+ years of experience working in a data engineering, data analysis or data science context

  • 5+ years of experience developing talent and culture

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience building a strategy for data platform products.  

  • Data-informed decision-making and implementing customer feedback loops

  • Develop KPIs to share with executives that demonstrate the value of the products the team delivers 

  • Technical experience working with the following domains: data warehousing, data governance, data visualization, AI/ML, product experimentation, usage analytics, customer segmentation/targeting and business intelligence.

  • Enthusiasm for hearing and considering diverse points of view and comfort with making decisions when surrounded by divergent opinions.

  • Bachelor's Degree in a technical field or equivalent experience

The annual base pay range for this role is between:$245,000—$270,000 USD
