We are looking for:

  • This position is with the Analytical department of Technology Solutions, with research laboratories located in Stamford, CT. The Analytical Department works closely with business Research & Innovation (R&I) project teams towards the continued introduction of new products and with Technical Service & Development (TS&D) teams for customer problem solving. The chemist will be part of a team of highly trained and dedicated scientists in providing technical and analytical expertise on problem solving, method development, and sample analysis.
  • The chemist will perform and document work in electronic notebooks and prepare laboratory reports to customers. All results should be well-organized and written clearly in a timely manner for project teams and scientists. This role requires extensive interactions with multiple stakeholders (R&I scientists/engineers application technologists, and TS&D groups) in order to understand innovation projects and/or customer problems and prioritize multiple projects accordingly. Furthermore, the position requires the ability to collaborate with other team members of the Analytical department to integrate multiple techniques to solve complex industrial problems effectively. 
  • The successful candidate for this position will primarily focus on inductively coupled plasma - optical emission spectrometry (ICP-OES) and X-ray Fluorescence (XRF) in the field of elemental analysis to support strategic growth of businesses.

We count on you for:

  • Operate and maintain ICP and XRF instruments to analyze samples for elemental composition.
  • Prepare samples for analysis, ensuring they meet the required standards and are suitable for the chosen analytical technique (ICP or XRF) and follow established procedures for sample digestion, dilution, and other preparation steps.
  • Develop and optimize analytical methods for specific sample types and elemental targets and stay updated on the latest developments in ICP and XRF technologies and methodologies.
  • Analyze and interpret data generated from ICP and XRF analyses.
  • Keep detailed and accurate records of experimental procedures, results, and instrument calibrations.
  • Communicate analytical results in a timely fashion and document in scientific reports.
  • Contribute expertise to R&I programs and the company in general. 
  • Manage daily laboratory activities, such as monitoring and maintaining of instruments, periodic laboratory cleaning, and managing laboratory waste.

SAFETY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Understand and follow key Syensqo safety policies and procedures for the site, including but not limited to the following:
  • Emergency Response / Evacuation Guidelines
  • Visitor Safety Policy
  • Housekeeping and 5S practices in the laboratory
  • Maintenance of the instrumentation and lab
  • Demonstrate a commitment to safety
  • Know the location of first aid and emergency response equipment, chemicals, and chemical documentation.                                   
  • Obtain equipment or process specific safety training as necessary according to the specific hazards

You will bring:

  • A minimum of a B.S. degree in Chemistry or related discipline (e.g. Chemistry, Material Science, or Chemical Engineering) with >2 years of experience in elemental analysis is required. Candidates with a Master degree in chemistry will also be considered.
  • A minimum of two years’ experience in an analytical lab in an industrial setting is preferred.
  • Prior experience with ICP-OES or XRF is preferred.
  • The abilities to work well in technical workgroups, write well-documented reports, and communicate results clearly are required.

  • The U.S. base salary range reasonably expected to be paid for this position is $73,000 to $92,000 per year. Since actual compensation packages are based on a variety of factors unique to each candidate we may ultimately pay more or less than the posted base salary range. Total compensation for this role also includes bonus and/or other incentives.
