Opening in early 2026, Riverside Smithfield Hospital will bring high-quality healthcare closer to home for Isle of Wight County residents. Located on a beautifully landscaped 27-acre medical campus at 19339 Benn’s Grant Boulevard in Smithfield, the new hospital will provide modern facilities and comprehensive medical services to meet the growing needs of the community.
The 200,000-square-foot, three-story facility will offer a range of essential healthcare services including an Emergency Department, Diagnostic Imaging Services, 38 Medical/Surgical beds, 12 Intensive Care Unit (ICU) beds and 4 Operating Rooms. Overview
Utilizes principles of leadership, change theory and adult education to improve nursing practice and promote quality care. Supports system and Nursing Strategic Plans, Relationship-Based Care and Shared Leadership.
What you will do
- Demonstrates the ability to build trusting, collaborative relationships with a multidisciplinary team to support patient care needs and promote a culture of clinical excellence and safety.
- Constantly assesses the learning needs of the clinical staff; develops, implements, and evaluates orientation programs, competency validation plans, and ongoing educational activities tailored to support professional development and regulatory compliance across all shifts and experience levels.
- Works closely with new employees, providing mentorship and support to ensure successful progression through the unit orientation and onboarding process
- Demonstrates clinical assessment abilities by applying standards of practice specific to assigned specialty or patient population served, incorporating current evidence-based practices into educational content and clinical guidance.
- Assists with the development, maintenance and systemization of policies, procedures, care and services provided. Effectively coordinates and integrates services throughout RHS and the community in order to provide a continuum of care for our patients.
- Monitors clinical activities to identify both expected and unexpected risks and opportunities for learning. Strives to continuously improve service and patient care outcomes through the interpretation and maintenance of regulatory and accreditation standards in accordance with patient safety standards, Standards of Excellence and Riverside Code of Conduct.
- Monitor / supports personal departmental productivity through volunteering for and recommending creative changes to include flexing and shift changes to meet the needs of the department.
- Demonstrate flexibility and sense of urgency to facilitate patient throughput throughout the facility.
- Demonstrates competency and skills in the proactive identification and follow-through of issues to include immediate resolution.
- Maintains knowledge, affiliation/networks with professional/civic/service organizations that support professional development/relationships that align with the Mission, Vision and Values of RHS.
- Demonstrates the ability to develop, implement and evaluate plan of care, treatments and procedures that contribute to the physiological and psychosocial outcomes and stability of the patient.
- Uses nursing theory and clinical knowledge of Nursing to promote and provide patient and/or staff education. Promotes clinical growth of staff members and influences care provided by other members of the health care team.
Qualifications
Education
- Required ADN or BSN (preferred)
Experience
- Clinical Nurse Practice Experience (Required) Strong preference for experience in acute care settings such as Critical Care, Telemetry, and/or Medical-Surgical units.
Licenses and Certifications
- Registered Nurse (RN) - Virginia Department of Health Professions (VDHP) Nursing (Required)
- Nursing Professional Development Certification - American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) within 1-1/2 Yrs (Required)
- CPR/BLS Certification - American Heart Association/American Red Cross/American Safety and Health Institute (AHA/ARC) CPR (Required)
- ACLS Provider - American Heart Association/American Red Cross/American Safety and Health Institute (AHA/ARC) (Required)
