About the role
Routinely place IVs for general anesthesia, manage drug inventory, obtain the medical history and medication information for consultation purposes and have knowledge about drug interactions, assist in oral surgery procedures.Essential Duties
- Perform pre-operative and post-operative examinations and documentation.
- Performs scrub functions including selecting and handling instruments and supplies used during the procedure.
- Performs circulating functions including monitoring, recording, and communicating patient condition and managing overall nursing care of patient before, during, and after the procedure.
- Directly assists operating physician with surgical and medical tasks including IV access/phlebotomy, induction-maintenance-emergence from IV Sedation / general anesthesia, hemostasis, suturing and wound exposure, and patient positioning.
- Prepares operatory and exam rooms and surgical instruments and equipment for use.
- Applies the existing body of evidence-based practice and scientific knowledge in health care to nursing practice, ensuring that nursing care is delivered based on the patient’s age-specific needs and clinical needs as described in the practice's Scope of Service.
- Works in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.
- Assist in surgery and other medical procedures
- Collaborate to plan, implement, co-ordinate and evaluate patient care
- Dispense and administer medications and treatments as prescribed by a physician
- Monitor, assess, address, document, and report symptoms and changes in patients' conditions
- Provide nursing care
- Operate or monitor medical apparatus or equipment
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Degree in Nursing
- IV Certification
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support Certification
- CPR Certification
- 1 Year of Nursing Experience
- Knowledge of heart/CO2 monitors, sterilization
- Constant use of speech to share information through oral communication.
- Constant standing and walking.
- Frequent lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 0-25 lbs.
- Frequent sitting, reaching, and keyboard use/data entry.
- Frequent use of vision and depth perception for distances near (20 inches or less) and far (20 feet or more) and to identify and distinguish colors.
- Frequent use of smell to detect/recognize odors.
- Frequent use of hearing to receive oral communication, distinguish body sounds and/or hear alarms, malfunctioning machinery, etc.
- Occasional lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 25-50 lbs.
- Occasional lifting/moving of patients.
- Occasional bending, stooping, kneeling, squatting, twisting, gripping, and repetitive foot/leg and hand/arm movements.
