Construction Engineer Technician

The Construction Engineer Technician plays a key role in supporting capital improvement projects across Cleveland Metroparks. This position works closely with the Director of Construction and project teams to monitor construction activities in the field, coordinate with contractors, track quantities, assist with design and drafting, and help ensure projects are completed safely, accurately and in alignment with Park District standards. This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys both in the field and behind the scenes work contributing to meaningful infrastructure projects to support the parks and community.
- Field observes construction activities on capital improvement projects: Documents and prepares daily reports on work completed by contractor; ensures construction techniques and materials satisfy requirements and intent of project drawings and specifications; assures construction activities and materials comply with Park District policies; participates in project meetings providing insight to project specifics and progress; performs measurements and prepares notes pertaining to actual field conditions.
- Assists the Director of Construction and Associated Divisions by assuming project assignments, assisting in design and drafting, and performing various operations functions
- Acts as a representative of operations to the public, community groups, industry professionals, and other appropriate agencies to provide information concerning park district operations.
Education and Experience
Minimum two years of progress towards a degree in civil engineering, construction engineering, or related field; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
Credentials, Licenses and Certifications
Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license under the laws of the State of Ohio.
Other Qualifications
- Working knowledge of construction methods, materials, and basic engineering or surveying principles
- The ability to read and interpret construction drawings, plans and blueprints.
- Proficient user of computers and software, including AutoCAD drafting and Microsoft Office programs.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate clearly in one-on-one and group settings
- High level of accuracy, organization, and attention to detail.
- Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with employees, contractors, stakeholders, and the general public.
- Ability to work independently with initiative, as well as collaboratively
