Capital One is seeking a strategic, results-driven Principal Financial Analyst to join the Internal Planning & Analysis team within Card Central Finance.
This is an exciting opportunity to support the growth of our Card business—a key driver of Capital One’s success—during a time of significant internal and external change.
Our team focuses on shaping the long-term financial objectives of the Card business, with an emphasis on analyzing, reporting, and forecasting trends in Card portfolio performance and growth. This role provides visibility into all aspects of the Card business and involves delivering actionable insights to senior executives, empowering informed decisions on growth and investment strategies.
Key responsibilities include financial analysis and reporting, presentation development, and ad hoc projects related to different aspects of the Card business. The ideal candidate will independently own their agenda, bring fresh perspectives to a collaborative team environment, and build impactful relationships while driving high-value results. The role requires strong communication skills, the ability to influence, and strategic thinking to effectively:
Analyze and interpret business results to provide meaningful insights and recommendations
Create clear, concise presentations that effectively communicate financial results and other analysis to senior leaders
Collaborate with different stakeholders to create efficient processes
Responsibilities:
Financial reporting and analysis, including budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, financial reporting, and Profit & Loss (P&L) management
Coordinate and collect input data from Financial Analysts in different departments, check data integrity, summarize and convert data, verify, analyze, and communicate output data
Assist in development of presentations to communicate analysis and results to senior audiences
Ad-hoc requests and special projects
Perform financial data analysis in preparing Profit & Loss or other statements
Frequently create reports for higher level associates
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree or military experience
At least 3 years experience in financial analysis, financial modeling or a combination
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in a quantitative major (Finance, Accounting, Economics, Mathematics, Engineering)
Masters Degree in Business Administration (MBA), Accounting, Finance, or Economics
Certified Treasury Professional or Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) license or Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license or CFM4+ years’ experience in financial analysis and financial modeling
3+ years’ experience in financial services, banking or technology industries
3+ years’ experience partnering with senior leaders and internal stakeholders
3+ years’ experience in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint skills or Google Suite equivalents
2+ years of SQL and Python skills

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.
McLean, VA: $117,300 - $133,900 for Principal Financial Analyst
