Position Overview:
The Head Nurse is a key leader in the development, oversight, and implementation of BBYO’s physical health protocols across all Movement Experience programs. This role ensures the health and safety of teens and staff by managing medical processes, supporting onsite nursing teams, and collaborating with the BBYO Medical Committee. The Health Consultant serves as both a strategic leader and hands-on practitioner for International Convention (IC), Summer Programs, and Regional Conventions.
Key Responsibilities:
Medical Oversight & Leadership
- Serve as BBYO’s lead professional in physical health management.
- Participate on and consult with the BBYO Medical Committee:, consult on medical policies and procedures, and engage the committee as a resource for organization-wide decision-making.
- Help draft and revise health-related protocols and policies across the organization.
- Review and respond to medical exemptions in line with BBYO policies.
Nurse Management & Onboarding
- Recruit, hire, train, onboard, and evaluate nursing staff for all BBYO Movement Experience programs, including IC, Global Week, Summer Programs (CLTC, ILTC, International Kallah, August Executives), and Regional Conventions. Responsible for hiring lead nurse for Perlman Summer 2026.
- Ensure that all nurses meet required state and licensing expectations (updated credentials, required trainings, etc.).
- Lead pre-program nurse onboarding and staff training sessions.
Medical Form Review & Family Outreach
- Oversee the medical review process and team for IC and Summer Programs:
- Track completion and compliance of medical forms.
- Hire, train, and onboard nurses completing reviews.
- Identify teens with significant medical diagnoses and manage emergency planning.
- Ensure accurate documentation of medications and teen health needs.
- Provide regular updates to the Customer Service team and leadership on compliance status.
- Review a minimum of 400 profiles for IC and 300 profiles for Summer.
- Communicate with families regarding significant health concerns and pre-program medical questions.
Program Responsibilities:
International Convention (IC) – Head Nurse
- Serve as the lead medical professional on-site for IC
- Train and hire nurses for Global Ambassadors Week
- Supervise all medical staff and maintain team schedules across sites.
- Manage the IC Medical Center including supply inventory, staff training, and end-of-event breakdown.
- Triage medical needs, respond to health-related emergencies, and follow up with families as necessary.
- Ensure standing medical orders are followed and oversee communication with the on-site doctors.
- Train all staff for IC onsite related to health needs/protocols
- Training staff for GAW
Summer Programs: Camp Leadership: Head Nurse
- Serve as the lead medical professional on-site for CLTC 1.
- Set up health centers at both camp leadership programs.
- Responsible for hiring, training, and onboarding Lead nurse for Perlman Summer.
- On call throughout summer for BBYO nursing team and camp directors.
- Review medical files, medication needs, and allergy alerts for all summer participants.
- Organize medication distribution (Camp Meds, daily logs, OTC administration).
- Respond to and manage health-related issues and emergencies on-site.
- Communicate regularly with camp leadership directors, teens, and families about health concerns.
- Hire, train and manage nurses and wellness staff on-site at both camp leadership programs.
- Participate in pre-program training and support regional programs with medical planning.
- Ensure standing medical orders are followed.
- Update medical resource packet
- When not onsite, the Head Nurse is responsible for the logistics for camp including the following:
- Communicating with families when a teen arrives with medication
- Reordering supplies
- Communicating with families when appropriate
Summer Programs: Passport
- Oversee review of participant files.
- Participate in conversations with families who have teens with medical needs.
- Communicate with Passport staff on all relevant medical needs for their trips.
- Train staff on how to handle medical needs on Passport programs.
Medical Communications
- Prepare and schedule messaging that goes to families with relevant medical information in preparation of IC and Summer programs.
