Principal Project Manager

The team is seeking an experienced Principal Project Manager with a strong architectural background and a deep understanding of commercial facility construction and planning principles. The Principal Project Manager will have primary responsibility for early-stage project definition and requirements development, programming in the Future Year Nuclear Security Program and will serve as an Integrated Project Team (IPT) Member throughout the lifecycle of multiple new building and renovation projects. This position reports to the Direct Programs Manager within Enterprise Infrastructure Programs Directorate.  

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and support early-stage project development, including scope definition, planning, programming, and stakeholder alignment.
• Provide strategic direction and thinking for the NNSS Building Program, providing recommendations for building types, layouts, and locations in collaboration with NNSS Area Planning.
• Act as core member of the Planning and Execution Integrated Project Team (IPT), providing architectural and strategic input.
• Support functional requirements development, ensuring stakeholder needs are captured and translated into actionable design criteria.
• Drive tenant assignment and integration efforts in collaboration with space planning and user groups.
• Interface regularly with Area Planning and Master Planning teams to ensure alignment with broader campus and site development goals.
• Coordinate across multi-disciplinary teams to establish project feasibility and readiness for transition to execution. 
• Collaborate with architects, engineers, contractors, and internal stakeholders to drive project objectives.
• Supports review and coordination of design documents, ensuring alignment with project goals and regulatory codes.
• Knowledge of applicable building codes and regulations, particularly the International Building Code (IBC) compliance.
• Presents project updates to leadership and client stakeholders.
• Actively monitor customer satisfaction.
• Proactively develop and implement strategies to identify and mitigate project risk.

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent training and experience plus at least 8 years’ related professional experience, which included at least 4 years’ as a designated Project Manager.
• Previous project management experience and responsibilities should include:
  • Managing medium (<$5-34M TPC sized projects and project teams (10-20 people)through
    representative project lifecycle phases;
  • Defining, planning, executing, monitoring, controlling, and successfully completing discrete
    elements of scope in compliance with defined schedule, costs, risk, and quality constraints;
  • Maintaining satisfaction of stakeholders with differing needs and expectations;
  • Managing communications between project stakeholders and team members;
  • Identifying and complying with project requirements in development of products and deliverables;
  • Managing the project team in successfully achieving project scope, schedule, and cost objectives.
• Previous experience with National Nuclear Security Agency (NNSA) nuclear facility projects and requirements highly desirable.
• Possess excellent oral and written communication skills and an ability to effectively interface with all levels of the organization and lead technical discussions.
