Description of Work
CAP Mechanical Superintendent (M/C Supervisor III)The ideal candidate will have journeyman‑level expertise in the construction, installation, maintenance, and repair of HVAC systems and related mechanical equipment. This role requires the ability to work independently, make sound decisions, and provide effective supervision of mechanical projects. Strong communication, collaboration, and coordination skills are essential, along with experience in mechanical construction, plumbing, HVAC, refrigeration, or civil utility systems. The position reports directly to the CAP Mechanical Construction Manager.
Supervises and performs construction, maintenance, repair, and minor renovation work for facilities of varying complexity. Oversees staff by planning and assigning work, providing training, interviewing candidates, and managing performance. Makes technical decisions across multiple trades, manages work orders, purchases supplies, and maintains inventory.
May also support functions such as housekeeping, security, safety, grounds and vehicle maintenance, hazardous materials handling, cost estimating, planning, contractor oversight, and coordination with regulatory agencies. Works independently under general supervision, conducts regular facility inspections, ensures safety, and performs additional duties as assigned.
Key Duties
• Supervise mechanical projects, ensuring safety, quality, and compliance with plans and specifications.
• Coordinate all mechanical trades and oversee project workflow to meet Critical Path Method schedule requirements.
• Provide training and guidance to unskilled labor forces on mechanical trade skills.
• Perform installation, maintenance, and repair of HVAC and mechanical systems at a journeyman level.
• Independently complete work assignments and support decision‑making for project needs.
Work Location and Schedule
This position will have a duty station normally at the successful candidates NC home and be assigned a State-owned vehicle for business use only. This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits. The work schedule is Monday – Thursday 7:00 AM – 5:30 PM but occasionally could require work hours on Fridays and weekends. Overnight travel is normally required to meet the demands of the organization

Salary Grade Range: $55,221.00 - $96,639.00
