Our employees are not only part of history, they're making history.Northrop Grumman’s Space Sector is seeking a RF Microwave Design Engineer – Level 2 or 3 to join our team in Gilbert, AZ to support our Tactical Space Systems - Civil Space Systems team.
The candidate will work in a technical role on DOD/commercial/civil satellite programs as part of a results-oriented team from design through production and test. As an associate engineer in the RF Communication group, the candidate will work in a team environment with focus on the product definition and evaluation/management of subcontracted components, support integration and test efforts, mission operations preparation and support. The successful candidate will have the ability to work with minimal direct supervision within a small team.
This position will work a 9/80 schedule, with every other Friday off.
Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Development of RF component specifications based on system level requirements
- Subcontractor management (some travel required) and lead RF component interface with other internal organizations.
- Evaluation of Interface Control Drawings (ICDs)
- Assist with generation of statements of work (SOW)
- Continuous technical support throughout the component life cycle from initial fact-finding discussions with potential vendors through component delivery for the next level of integration
- Prepare and present design review packages to internal and external customers
- Review and evaluate vendor proposals, including preparation of trade studies and justification for selecting a particular vendor
- Requirements verification based on customer’s top-level requirements compared to subcontractors actual implementation. The candidate will be able to concisely summarize findings and present them to the internal engineering team.
- Prepare and present test data reviews for internal and external customers, including summary of and trending of data within and across similar programs. The candidate will have regular interaction with the internal engineering and program management team, and occasional direct interaction with the end-customer.
- Support integration and testing of spacecraft for the RF communication team, as it moves throughout the factory.
- Support programs as the cognizant RF COMM engineer, after shadowing a technical lead.
- Other duties as assigned
This position can be filled at either a Level 2 or Level 3 (Principal) .
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor's of Science in Electrical Engineering with 2 to 5 years of experience, in addition to some combination of the following coursework: microwave theory, satellite communications, radio-wave propagation, electromagnetics, antenna theory.
- Bachelor's of Science in Electrical Engineering with 5 to 7 years of experience, in addition to some combination of the following coursework: microwave theory, satellite communications, radio-wave propagation, electromagnetics, antenna theory.
- Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government DoD Top-Secret security clearance
- Laboratory work and hands-on project assignments in the microwave field a strong plus, using RF measurement equipment such as Network Analyzers, Power Meters and Spectrum Analyzers
- Ability to work with others from engineering and non-engineering disciplines in a fast-paced team environment
- Good oral presentation skills and comfort with customer interaction. Ability to write technical documents clearly and concisely.
- Well organized and able to keep track of and make progress on multiple simultaneous tasks.
- Strong skills in Microsoft Office (particularly Excel, Word, and PowerPoint)
- Ability to travel 10% of the time
