About the role

Summary

The Center for Comparative Medicine is seeking a detail‑oriented and proactive Business Operations Associate to support critical HR and operational functions. This role provides essential human resources support to departmental leadership, manages day‑to‑day divisional HR activities, and streamlines onboarding processes for animal care staff. The Business Operations Associate also plays an active role in developing and improving staffing plans, procedures, and workflow efficiencies that strengthen the department’s overall operations.   This position may offer the flexibility of a hybrid work schedule of up to two days per week from home after an initial probationary period

Job Duties

  • Develops staffing/workforce plans for the department, including oversight and preparation of the annual personnel budget for the department.
  • Screens, interviews and selects candidates, including offer communication and salary negotiation.
  • Handles employee conflicts within department and partners with managers and Employee Relations on any disciplinary actions, terminations, RIFs and employee retirement. 
  • Manages HR analytics (PowerBI) for the department and makes recommendations based on the data. 
  • Consults and advises departmental leaders on various employment issues.
  • Works with Mission HR and Finance on the financial impact of position management and changes. 
  • Oversees the onboarding and division specific orientation of new employees – ensuring that new employees are set up for success.
  • Provides HR support staff mentorship and guidance to ensure accuracy and compliance in day-to-day transactions. 
  • Identifies/resolves compensation issues in department and manages compensation processes within department – promotions, merits, equities, etc. 
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree. 
  • Two years of relevant experience. 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong written and oral presentation skills.
  • Prior Human Resources experience.
  • Experience working in an Human Resources Information System (HRIS) system or Applicant Tracking System (ATS).
  • Experience or knowledge of generic time keeping practices.
