Position Overview:
Citi Private Bank's Art Advisory team has been a leader in the art advisory field since 1979, a regulated fiduciary providing personalized acquisition and selling strategies, as well as collection management services. The Art Advisor Sr. Lead is a strategic professional who closely follows the latest trends in the art world and adapts them for application to serve clients’ needs and the business; typically, a small number of people within the business provide the same level of expertise. Excellent communication skills are required to negotiate internally and externally, often at a senior level. Developed communication and diplomacy skills are required to guide and educate others, in particular colleagues in other areas and external customers. Accountable for significant business results. Ability to provide authoritative advice regarding client acquisitions or deaccessions. Necessitates a degree of responsibility over technical strategy. Responsible for handling resource management and allocation of work within the team/project.
Key Responsibilities:
Client Management
Assist clients in all geographies globally with art collecting activities: buying, selling and professional collections management
Advise clients regarding their art acquisitions and sales to maximize quality and value
Act as a representative for Art Advisory in the art market through experience, expertise and integrity
Have regular contact with clients to determine needs and provide personal attention to all details of their collecting and curatorial issues, some travel required
Using experience of past fluctuations in the market, bring perspective to client decisions to protect customers from inappropriate transactions
Maintain regular contact with art market sources, keep up to date with market information and research, identify works to recommend from auction or private sources, determine condition, prepare market analysis to determine appropriate price level, negotiate or bid on client's behalf, direct Collections Manager to oversee restoration, shipping, insurance, installation, loans to exhibitions, publicity, or consignment for sale
Fiduciary & Risk Management
Ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements in keeping with the policies of the Citi Private Bank Balance understanding of art market with requirements of financial institution and fiduciary responsibility
Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing and reporting control issues with transparency.
Perform various duties related to governance, reporting and risk management related to compliance with Regulation 9.
Thought Leadership & Marketing
Offer a unique and specialized product to ultra-high net worth Citi clients, distinguishing us from all other financial institutions
Assist bankers in identifying art prospects and marketing of Citi Art Advisory
Coordinate with business heads and bankers throughout Citi to source clients and introduce own network of art prospects, major art collectors, dealers and auction houses for Advisory business.
Serve as client liaison to Family Office and other parts of bank; increase client involvement in the bank through continuity and confidentiality and knowledge of the CPB platform and the breath of Citi.
Write client focused art market updates and focused art historical articles
Recommend venues for client events, topics for panel discussions and articles
Art Finance Liaison
Liaise with Citi’s Art Finance team: Inspect and research proposed collateral for value, condition, and marketability, update existing collateral according to market fluctuations, inspect annually or in some cases more frequently to ensure properly maintained; utilize experience and depth of understanding of art market to provide lending officers with necessary information on art collateral and market analysis
Qualifications:
10+ years of experience in the art market
Proven business development skills and experience
Degree in Art History
Expertise and responsibility equivalent to senior specialist at auction house or Senior Director at major gallery.
Candidate must have expertise in Impressionist & Modern Art, or Postwar & Contemporary art,
