About the role

Business Product Owner (BPO) – Intake Management

The Business Product Owner (BPO) serves as the strategic lead for intake management within the business domain. This role ensures stakeholder requests are clearly defined, prioritized, and aligned with enterprise goals before transitioning to the Product and Planning team for Agile execution. The BPO focuses on business requirements, stakeholder alignment, and intake governance—not delivery management.

Key Responsibilities

· Act as the primary liaison between business stakeholders and the intake team.

· Facilitate intake triage and validate completeness of submitted requests.

· Conduct stakeholder interviews to clarify business needs and requirements.

· Document business context, KPIs, constraints, and success criteria.

· Score and prioritize requests based on strategic alignment and impact.

· Ensure requests meet the Definition of Ready before handoff to Product and Planning.

· Maintain intake tracking tools and dashboards.

· Support intake governance and manage escalation protocols.

· Collaborate with finance and strategy teams to confirm funding readiness.

· Partner with the Technical Product Owner (TPO) to align and monitor priorities.

Required Competencies

· Strong business analysis and stakeholder engagement skills.

· Ability to translate business needs into actionable intake documentation.

· Experience with intake governance and prioritization frameworks.

· Familiarity with Agile principles and enterprise planning tools (e.g., Jira, Confluence).

· Excellent communication, facilitation, and documentation abilities.

· Strategic mindset with a focus on enterprise alignment.

· Proficiency in Smartsheet or similar intake tracking platforms.

Relevant Experience

· Hands-on experience in product ownership, business analysis, or intake management.

· Proven success working with claims systems, configuration teams, or similar operational areas.

· Skilled in translating business needs into technical requirements and managing stakeholder expectations.

Process & Methodology Familiarity

· Understanding of Agile, Scrum, or Lean practices (certification not required).

· Experience in backlog grooming, intake triage, or prioritization sessions.

Tools & Systems

· Proficiency in Smartsheet, Jira, Confluence, or similar collaboration platforms.

· Comfort with data analysis or reporting tools to support decision-making.

Soft Skills & Leadership

· Strong communication and facilitation skills.

· Ability to lead cross-functional discussions and influence outcomes without direct authority.

Recommended Certifications (Not Required)

· Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO) – Scrum Alliance

· SAFe Product Owner/Product Manager (POPM) – Scaled Agile

· Professional Scrum Product Owner (PSPO) – Scrum.org

· Certified Business Analysis Professional (CBAP) – IIBA

· PMI Professional in Business Analysis (PMI-PBA) – PMI

· Lean Six Sigma (Green Belt or higher)

· Project Management Professional (PMP)

For this EviCore role, the individual selected is required to work on-site as a hybrid employee if located within a 50 mile commute to a designated Evernorth/Cigna office facility.


If you will be working at home occasionally or permanently, the internet connection must be obtained through a cable broadband or fiber optic internet service provider with speeds of at least 10Mbps download/5Mbps upload.

For this position, we anticipate offering an annual salary of 94,400 - 157,400 USD / yearly, depending on relevant factors, including experience and geographic location.

This role is also anticipated to be eligible to participate in an annual bonus plan.
