The Physical Therapy Assistant (PTA) works as a member of the interdisciplinary patient care team. The PTA follows the treatment care plan developed by the Physical Therapist. The PTA may contribute to the progression of the patient's treatment plan with the Physical Therapist as appropriate. Treatment is individualized, focusing on the patient's goals to improve function and mobility.Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions- Demonstrates competence in the areas of critical thinking, interpersonal relationships, and technical skills.
- Assesses specific problem areas such as self-care status in compliance with the PT Practice Act in Kansas.
- Development of a clear treatment plan and goals will be completed after consultation with the supervising physical therapist. The treatment plan will consider needs of the patient including the physical, psychosocial, developmental, and cultural aspects.
- Implements established treatment program using appropriate problem-solving. Communicates with providers and supervising PT concerning patient status, ability to progress and need for continued services. Provides treatment activities, based upon the patient’s needs and current status.
- Documentation is clear and concise and in compliance with departmental, KPTA and APTA guidelines, and regulatory requirements from third party payers.
- Follows all departmental policies, procedures, and standards.
- Meets all state requirements for continuing education with the Kansas Board of Healing Arts.
- Meets all state requirements for continuing education with the Kansas Board of Healing Arts.
- Demonstrates professionalism and develops rapport with other professionals, patients, and visitors.
- Demonstrates willingness to help out in all areas and recognize the needs of the entire department.
- Supervises rehab technicians and PTA students as per department policy.
- May assist to develop, collect, and analyze performance improvement data.
- Assumes responsibility for risk and safety issues associated with position.
- Utilizes resources efficiently and effectively.
- Takes responsibility for own learning needs.
- Participates as a member of a team to achieve organizational goals.
- Brings ideas/concerns to supervisor.
- Must be able to perform the professional, clinical and or technical competencies of the assigned unit or department.

Required Education and Experience
- Associates Degree in Physical Therapy Assistant
Required Licensure and Certification
- Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS or BCLS) - American Heart Association (AHA)
- Licensed Physical Therapy Assistant (PTA) - State Board of Healing Arts
Preferred Licensure and Certification
- First Aid - American Heart Association (AHA)
