What You Will Do:
Survivability is the ability of an aircraft to complete a mission in contested airspace. P&W's Survivability team primarily supports three distinct technical areas. The Vulnerability team assesses the ability of the engine to continue operating when exposed to ballistic, chemical, and other threats. The Infrared (IR) team assesses and improves stealth capabilities relative to thermal emissions of aircraft engines and exhaust gas plumes, which can be detected by infrared sensors. The Radar (RCS) team assesses and improves stealth capabilities relative to electromagnetic detection by radar systems.
In Vulnerability: Adjusting existing CAD models of all engine parts to prepare for simulations, assessing criticality of parts to engine operation, simulating ballistics events, and utilizing databases to assess chemical and other threats to engine parts.
In Infrared: Construction of engineering simulation models and execution of infrared design & analysis, including thermal, optical, and flow/CFD simulations, along with some infrared testing.
In Radar: Construction of engineering simulation models using material electromagnetic properties, as well as full-scale experiments on a radar test range.
Qualifications You Must Have:
Bachelor’s Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math and a minimum of 8+ years of prior relevant experience. OR an advanced degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math and a minimum of 5+ years of prior relevant experience.
