DIRECTOR, FINANCE – STORE OPERATIONS

Overall Focus:

Customer Obsessed, results oriented Finance leader, responsible for strategy, execution and optimization of Store Operations across both Nordstrom and Rack Stores, through the lens of customer acquisition and profitability.   

As Director, Finance for Store Operations & COE, this role will require strong collaboration and cross-functional partnerships with Store Operations and Supply Chain Leadership, Finance, and across both Nordstrom and Rack Store Leadership to help drive financial commitments and operational outcomes ties to our JWN priorities.  The role will lead and support financial planning, operational planning and strategic support with a primary focus on driving efficiencies and delivering financial outcomes in support of 3 Year Plan ambition for Store Operations and in alignment with JWN priorities focused on delivering more profit. In addition, this role will provide COE support for Stores through the lens of planning coordination, consolidation and reporting automation.  

Ideal candidate will have a background in retail finance with a focus on operations or supply chain, and a demonstrated ability to develop and lead a high performing team in support of the dynamic business demands.  In addition, the ideal candidate must be able to lead and drive outcomes through data, credible insights, and strong influencing capabilities. 

**This is a Hybrid downtown Seattle, WA position that does require you to be in office 4 days per week. We are not offering relocation for this role at this time.

A day in the life… 

  • Embrace and champion change and process improvement across finance and business  
  • Build, develop and foster an efficient and effective team of finance professionals by providing coaching, context, and inspiration to the team through daily interactions, to prioritize work, lead issue resolution, and guide solutions and the team’s career development. 
  • Lead Store Operations financial planning, measurement, and financial governance including leading the team supporting the financial planning process through month end close, forecasting, budgeting and long-term planning while analyzing results ensuring execution and accountability across the business 
  • Expertise in driving ad-hoc analyses that support strategic decisions and tradeoffs through strong partnerships with key stakeholders and Operations leadership across Stores, Enterprise Operations and Supply Chain to help drive strategic commitments and financial outcomes through tracking, reporting and identifying risks associated with key initiatives.   
  • Analyze results across Store Operations and provide recommended shifts in investments, identify trends and proactively communicate insights ensuring positive ROI 
  • Identify opportunities to improve overall Store level financial planning, including processes, timeline and tools through insightful recommendations with a clear understanding of needs of the key stakeholders and capabilities of existing and new tools. 
  • Partner with senior leadership, cross-functional partners and key stakeholders to anticipate and proactively address future business changes through effective scenario planning to influence alignment and change across a diverse set of leaders with a high degree of ambiguity.

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience required; MBA preferred 
  • 12+ years of experience in finance or economics with scope and accountability progression 
  • Strong team leader with a passion for teaching early and mid-career professionals 
  • Skilled with corporate metrics and analytical methods 
  • Experienced in driver-based model building that is scalable and flexible 
  • Proficiency in MS Office suite 
  • Ability to think strategically and communicate effectively with all levels of management 
  • Highly collaborative and comfortable dealing with ambiguity, influencing across multiple complex organizations, creating effective internal business partnerships 
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively translate financial analysis and insights into meaningful and actionable business communications and recommendations
