Position Overview

The Illinois Prisoner Review Board is seeking to hire a motivated, self-starting Chief of Operations for the Operations Unit. The Chief of Operations will oversee the Operations Unit consisting of multiple levels of clerical support. This position will propose policy development and new initiatives, travel to oversee hearings and attend executive level meetings, as needed, and conduct and oversee the on-going agency training program for new and senior board members for multiple hearing types. The ideal candidate will be able to work well with the public, staff and Senior Management. We invite those interested in public safety to apply. 

Essential Function

• Provides advise to the Executive Director on proposed policy development and new initiatives and prepares reports showing impact of new policies and initiatives.
• Provides support to the Chairperson and Board Members in general section operations.
• Travels to oversee and monitor the MH and Morales hearings at the Correctional facilities to ensure the Board Members and agency staff are conducting hearings within statutory requirements.
• Conducts and oversees the on-going agency training program for new and senior board members for multiple hearing types.
• Serves as a full-line supervisor.
• Attends executive level meetings on behalf of the Executive Director and Chairperson regarding policies and procedures.
• Performs other duties as assigned or required which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

1.  Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years of college, preferably with courses in business or public administration.

2.  Requires prior experience equivalent to three (3) years of progressively responsible administrative experience in public or business organization.

• Prefers the ability to develop and maintain cooperative working relationships.
• Prefers knowledge of agency policies and procedures.

Conditions of Employment

1.  Requires the ability to pass the Department of Corrections, Illinois State Police and county jail background checks as necessary to enter required correctional facilities throughout Illinois.

2.  Requires the ability to travel statewide, which could include overnight stays.

3.  Requires possession of a current valid appropriate driver's license.
