The Izzo laboratory is looking for candidates for an entry-level Associate Researcher position. As an entry level Associate Researcher, the candidate will be responsible for performing routine and standardized experiments for research projects involving the study of Myelodysplastic syndrome through single-cell sequencing, induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC) and culture of human cell lines. The candidate will receive supervision and training and is expected to gain increasing levels of independence in conducting the required experiments. In addition to providing experimental support, the candidate is expected to assist in interpretation and analysis of the results, and to assist in organization and function of the laboratory.
- To maintain, collect, prepare, analyze, and evaluate specimens and/or tissue cultures: The projects in which the candidate will be involved require the acquisition, handling, shipment, and storage of human samples. Functional validation experiments require proficiency in cell culture techniques and maintenance of human cell lines. Supervision and training will be provided, and the candidate is expected gain increasing levels of independence in the handling and maintenance of cell cultures and proper indexing and organization of human sample storage. The candidate is expected to maintain a log of the activities performed for future reference.
- To operate basic laboratory equipment and contribute to laboratory maintenance: The candidate will be required to operate basic laboratory equipment for performing the necessary experiments. Supervision and training in tissue culture, single-cell sequencing experiments and other required basic experimental procedures will be provided. The candidate is expected to gain increasing levels of independence in performing these tasks.
- To analyze and interpret results: Beyond complying with performing the experimental tasks, the candidate is expected to aid in the analysis and interpretation of the results of said experiments, under the supervision of the Principal Investigator and other members of the laboratory.
- To participate in training sessions: The candidate will be encouraged to attend and make use of training sessions including but not limited to: safety protocol training, journal clubs, work in progress meetings, seminars and project meetings. Candidates will be encouraged to actively participate of the research projects and present the results in internal or external meetings.
- To aid in laboratory organization and function: The candidate is expected to help in the maintenance of laboratory environment and to assist in the upkeep of appropriate inventory, which might include ordering laboratory supplies.
- Bachelors degree in science or related field preferred, or combination of relevant research experience and education
- 0-2 years of research/laboratory experience
