Principal DevOps Kubernetes Engineer - Hybrid

We are seeking a highly skilled Principal DevOps Kubernetes Engineer to join our team and lead infrastructure modernization efforts for a leading organization in the travel and hospitality industry. This is a transformational role where you'll architect and implement solutions that directly impact millions of travelers, driving the evolution from legacy systems to a modern, cloud-native infrastructure.
This hybrid position offers the chance to make a significant technical impact by designing and implementing enterprise-scale improvements to a complex multi-cloud environment. You'll work at the intersection of innovation and operational excellence, leading the charge in infrastructure optimization, cost reduction, and platform modernization.
- Location: Westlake Village, CA (hybrid environment that will require on-site work and on-call as needed)
- Project Duration: 6+ months (project-based engagement that can lead to perm conversion).
- Hourly Rate: $80 - $105/hr
- Manage and optimize hybrid cloud infrastructure (Azure + AWS) with a focus on scalability, resilience, and cost efficiency.
- Build and maintain Kubernetes clusters (AKS, EKS, or self-managed).
- Develop and support CI/CD pipelines for application deployment and infrastructure automation.
- Implement monitoring, logging, and alerting across environments using tools like Prometheus, Grafana, CloudWatch, or Azure Monitor.
- Support containerized workloads (Docker, Kubernetes) and infrastructure-as-code (Terraform, Bicep, or CloudFormation).
- Ensure system security and compliance in coordination with the cybersecurity team (Zscaler, CrowdStrike, Entra ID integration).
- Automate build, release, and configuration management processes.
- Troubleshoot cloud networking, load balancing, and firewall configurations.
- Participate in on-call rotations for production support.
- 7+ years of DevOps or Systems Engineering experience in a hybrid cloud environment.
- Strong proficiency with Linux administration and scripting (Bash, Python).
- Proven experience managing Kubernetes clusters (preferably AKS and/or EKS).
- Hands-on experience with Azure, AWS, and cross-cloud networking concepts.
- Familiarity with GitOps practices and CI/CD tools (GitHub Actions, Jenkins, or Azure DevOps).
- Experience with infrastructure-as-code (Terraform, Bicep, or CloudFormation).
- Understanding of security and compliance frameworks (SOC2, NIST, PCI).
- Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively across teams.
