Basic Function
Responsible for providing safe operations (opening and closing) of Automated Reversible Gate Operations System (ARGO) on High Occupancy Toll (HOT) Lanes. Responsible for the daily operations on HOT lanes for responses to incidents during day-to-day operations during significant events. As assigned, performs the duties of the ARGO Supervisor in their absence in all related areas and situations as needed. Performs duties in a safe, efficient manner and in compliance with all applicable rules and safety procedures.
Responsibilities and Specific Duties
- Assists the Supervisor of ARGO in the daily activities of the Automated Reversible Gate Operations (ARGO) (remotely open/close motorized gates from TranStar) on HOT Lanes.
- Performs the duties of the ARGO Supervisor in their absence in all related areas and situations as needed.
- Performs all regular duties of an ARGO Operator.
- Monitors all activities relevant to safe, clean and efficient operation of METRO’s HOT Lanes.
- Dispatches and coordinates ancillary personnel assigned to the HOT Lanes as needed for emergency and non-emergency traffic accidents and incidents.
- Provides information to and from the City of Houston, Harris County, and METRO’s Emergency Management Division when freeway incidents occur, or the Office of Emergency Management is activated and/or affects HOT lane.
- Maintains telephone communications with METRO’s Transportation staff, METRO Police Department, Houston Police Department, Harris County Sheriff’s Department, Houston Fire Department dispatchers, Safe Clear and other related law enforcement agencies and emergency services as needed.
- Requests services of wreckers as required and/or moves vehicles off roadway.
- Contacts TransCore/vendors for system repairs and/or malfunctions as required.
- Coordinates with METRO’s Bus Transportation for dispatchers and check availability of buses to use for emergency incidents.
- Provides excellent customer service to METRO internal and external customers.
- Promotes safety awareness and follows safety procedures to reduce or eliminate accidents.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Education Requirement
High school diploma or GED is required.
Years & Experience Required
Minimum two (2) years’ ARGO Operator experience; surveillance equipment, traffic control devices, electronic signs, and closed-circuit cameras. Previous lead/senior experience in related public transit operations.
Knowledge & Skills Required
Good working knowledge of surveillance equipment, traffic control devices, electronic signs, and closed-circuit cameras. General computer skills. General knowledge of HOVL control flow. Ability to work independently and work as a team. Must have excellent time management skills and ability to provide clear and concise communications (verbal/written).
