Job Description
Responsibilities:
NBC News seeks an Executive Editor to lead its Investigative Unit. A key and integral member of the news leadership team, the Executive Editor of Investigations will help to set the tone and guide editorial leaders to ensure we share stories that are fair and accurate. The ideal candidate is a forward-thinking leader – fiercely innovative and deeply invested in top notch storytelling, with a keen understanding of quality journalism in a multi-platform world.
A seasoned-journalist and creative-problem solver – the ideal candidates is ready and willing to teach, support, guide, and empower journalists across all levels and platforms of NBC News and MSNBC. Beyond being a highly collaborative leader, this person will be expected to frame, develop, and oversee our sourcing on all investigative work.
Job Duties:
- Maintain the reputation, journalistic integrity, and editorial independence of the News Group organization, including NBC News, MSNBC.
- Support, guide, and hold senior editorial leaders accountable across all platforms.
- Lead team by setting clear and consistent expectations.
- Set the tone and develop consistent practices for storytelling – ensuring all content is approached with accuracy, fairness, equity, and appropriate sourcing.
- Support, consult, and collaborate with Executive Producers, Executive Editors, and leaders across TV and digital, on review processes and cross platform investigative work.
Qualifications
Qualifications/Requirements :
- 20+ years working experience within the journalism field – including broadcast, cable, digital, or print.
- Proven track record leading award-winning, groundbreaking journalism
- Adept in all forms of storytelling – both on traditional media, as well as emerging platforms.
- Prior experience managing editorial teams, including seasoned investigative journalists.
- Meticulous in managing complex, nuanced reporting and storytelling
- Passionate, entrepreneurial, and nimble in looking for enterprising or investigative opportunities when big news stories break
- Must have ability to communicate and collaborate across all-levels.
- Should be open and able to adapt to new approaches to content and storytelling
- Must have exceptional news and editorial judgment
- Must be willing to work in New York, NY.

This position has been designated as hybrid, generally contributing from the office a minimum of 3 days per week.

Salary range: $250,000 - $300,000 (bonus and long-term incentive eligible)
