The Team
The Medical Team operates under the powers delegated by the Director of Public Health under the Tasmanian Public Health Act 1997.
The primary purpose of the Medical Team is to provide public health medical leadership and expertise to support Public Health - Protection and Public Health - Improvement. These public health medical functions support risk management, prioritisation, decision-making and responses to public health issues to deliver evidence-based public health outcomes.
The Medical Team consists of Specialist Medical Advisors, Medical Officers and Public Health Medicine Trainees.
The Role
The Public Health Medicine Fellowship Trainee is a medical practitioner, in accordance with Agency strategic directions, policies and service specifications, has the primary objectives to:
- Study and acquire public health medicine competencies and assessments at a level to satisfy the training requirements of the Public Health Medicine Advanced Training program of the Australasian Faculty of Public Health Medicine (AFPHM), Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP).
- Support the DPH to discharge statutory duties and exercise statutory powers under the Public Health Act 1997, Radiation Protection Act 2005, Poisons Act 1971, Fluoridation Act 1968, Food Act 2003, and other relevant public health legislation.

Details of appointment
Fixed term, fulltime time, day worker position, working 76 hours per fortnight, as soon as possible for a period until end of 2027. The position includes provisions under the Medical Practitioners Agreement 2025 for up to 10 hours per fortnight for Training Time.
*notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.
The successful applicant will be expected to participate in an after hours on call roster.

Salary
Medical Practitioner Level 5 - 11 $138,978 - $194,675 per annum, pro rata + 12% superannuation
- Salary range is in accordance with Medical Practitioners Agreement 2025
