About the role:
Data is central to everything we do at Samsara. We are in the business of providing data & insights to our customers to help them drive efficiency, safety and sustainability within their physical operations. The Senior Data Engineer will be responsible for building innovative data architectures and solutions to enable Samsara’s business. This is a cross functional role which will engage with functions like Sales, Supply Chain, Marketing and Customer Success - working closely with these functions to build data solutions to fuel our growth and scale at Samsara. You will be part of the Data Engineering & Architecture team, which is a critical component of our Business Technology organization.
This role is open to candidates residing in the US except the San Francisco Bay Area (125 mi. radius from 1 De Haro St, San Francisco) and NYC Metro Area (50 mi. radius from 131 W 55th St, New York)

In this role, you will:
- Lead the data engineering team by driving the design, build, test, and launching of new data pipelines, data models, and predictive models on our production data platform
- Lead a team of data engineers and guide them with the best data strategies in line with data needs
- Identifying, designing, and implementing process improvements that include building/re-engineering data models, data architectures, pipelines, and data applications
- Continuously look for data optimization processes and oversee data management, governance, security, and analysis
- Hire the best talents, identify the potential of each team member and offer technical guidance, leadership, and advice on planning, designing, and implementing data solutions
- Manage data delivery through high-performing dashboards, visualizations, and reports
- Ensure data quality and security across every product vertical and related areas
- Design, create and launch new data models and pipelines as per needs
- Act as a project manager for data projects, mentor and grow the team by hiring skilled data engineers
