This position is covered by the collective bargaining agreement between the Chicago Park District and the Service Employees International Union Local 14. Pursuant to the collective bargaining agreement, the District will exhaust internal eligible applicants prior to considering external applicants. The District is assembling a list of qualified candidates for this position that will be considered should the position not be filled with internal eligible applicants.
Title: Painter General Foreman
CHARACTERISTICS OF THE CLASS: Under supervision, directs and coordinates the daily work assignments of Painter Foreman and all personnel engaged inside and outside general painting work. Performs related duties as required.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Supervises and directs the work projects of Painter Foreman and all painting related personnel engaged in inside and outside painting projects.
- Develops and maintains schedules for work assignments, vehicles, equipment, tools, supplies and materials.
- Reviews all work orders and prepares and distributes assignments to ensure work is addressed and completed in a timely and efficient manner.
- Reviews and justifies potential; purchases, obtains written proposals and reviews information with the Facility Manager.
- Ensures sufficient materials, supplies, equipment, tools and vehicles are available. Ensures that all work is in accordance with prescribed drawings, specifications, sketches or oral instructions.
- Studies blueprints and project specifications and inspects work sites to assess the project scope and size.
- Distributes work orders and determines the resources needed to complete the project. Prioritizes schedules and assigns work to Foreman and their crew based on the extent of the work required, the urgency and availability of resources.
- Reviews initial and final cost estimates prepared by the Foreman.
- Ensures that schedules are adhered to and work completed in accordance with specifications.
- Recommends alternative strategies to ensure that projects are completed in a timely and efficient manner.
- Oversees the work and safety procedures.
- Administers corrective disciplinary action as needed. Reviews and approves time and attendance reports submitted by the Foreman.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Training and Experience: Eight years’ experience as a journeyman Painter, four of which must be in a supervisory capacity, or an equivalent combination of training and experience is required. License Requirement: Must possess a valid State of Illinois Driver’s License.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Considerable knowledge of the principles and practices of painting. Considerable knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions. Knowledge of color charts pertaining to the painting trade. Knowledge of surface preparation procedures. Skill in the use and care of the tools, equipment, materials and supplies related to painting. Ability to supervise employees and communicate effectively with the public, park staff and other trades people. Ability to work from sketches and blueprints. Ability to manage the work of several crews and coordinate with other trades. Ability to access work areas including confined or cramped areas. Skill in reading and interpreting blueprints and specifications. Considerable skill in trouble shooting difficult and complex situations. Ability to drive a one half or three-quarter ton vehicle as required to support the job function.

Rate of Pay: $141,190.40/annually
