Using your creativity and tenacity, you will contribute to the discovery, development, and characterization of small molecules to further GDC’s mission to discover innovative medicines
Your key responsibilities:
Contribute at all stages of the drug discovery process, from inception, early project validation, optimization, candidate selection, and through to early development.
Collaborate with peers and work effectively and efficiently as an important part of a cross-functional team where you will identify key drug discovery issues, propose, and implement creative solutions, execute on innovative medicinal chemistry designs, and guide projects to decision points.
Propose and explore new research directions, projects, and/or new technologies.
Act as a source of drug discovery expertise, demonstrate impact beyond your project team, and mentor colleagues.
Work closely with computational chemistry colleagues and apply modern digital and data technologies to drug discovery.
Independently design and synthesize compounds based off team or individual hypotheses, utilize novel methodologies and technologies, and conduct multi-step syntheses of small molecules
Use contemporary medicinal chemistry principles to drive science to key decision points
Analyze and interpret data, solve synthetic issues, and design follow-up experiments
Adhere to laboratory safety policies and practices
Essential requirements
BS or MS degree in organic chemistry with 15+ years of industrial medicinal chemistry experience in design, synthesis, and characterization of organic compounds
A comprehensive knowledge of modern organic synthetic methods; medicinal chemistry, and digital tools and analysis for medicinal chemistry
Strong problem solving and outstanding communication skills
Knowledge and efficient use of IT applications used to support the planning and execution of synthesis experiments, and communication of results
A strong collaborative approach to drive the effectiveness of a drug discovery team
Excellence in common purification, analytical techniques, and spectroscopy (NMR, UV, MS)
The salary for this position is expected to range between $103,600 and $192,400 per year. The final salary offered is determined based on factors like, but not limited to, relevant skills and experience, and upon joining Novartis will be reviewed periodically. Novartis may change the published salary range based on company and market factors.
Your compensation will include a performance-based cash incentive and, depending on the level of the role, eligibility to be considered for annual equity awards.
