The Registered Dietitian provides nutrition counseling and education specific to the individualized needs of the patients. The dietitian assesses the dietary and health needs of the clients, may develop meal plans for patients, gauge the effective of these meal plans, promote nutrition through community outreach programs and keeping abreast of the latest research in nutritional and food sciences.

Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities• Ensures that medical nutrition therapy is evidence-based practice, in accordance with the American Dietetic Association (ADA), American Diabetes Association (ADA), American Society of Parenteral, and Enteral Nutrition (ASPEN), American Heart Association (AHA), Cancer Society, United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), and Food and Drug Administration (FDA) guidelines• Assess medical nutrition therapy needs based upon the patient’s medical diagnosis, laboratory values, anthropometric measures, medications, age-specific requirements, and other co-morbidity factors identified by the registered dietitian, or other member of the health care team• Act as a resource to all members of the health care team, including dietetic students, nursing students, and family practice residents related to the establishment of appropriate nutrition care standards, and the determination of realistic goals for optimal patient outcomes• Educate patients on how to select food to maintain and promote health as well as to prevent and treat illness and disease• Plan appropriate diets and menus to meet the needs of individuals whose medical condition can be treated or controlled using diet therapy• Determine if follow-up appointment is needed, based on patient’s motivation and comprehension of education session• Conduct nutrition education classes if demand exists (diabetes classes, weight management)• Serve as a community resource to patients. Provide information on programs offered at local facilities• Create in house nutrition education materials for use in nutrition education of staff and patients• Provide information and education to staff members using nutrition education materials, or inservice/meetings per request• Monitor and respond to phone and e-mail messages promptly• Enters nutrition notes into CPRS promptly when assessment completed• Will maintain patient, employee and computer data safety and confidentiality• This job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities that are required of the employee for this job. Qualifications

Education Details: • Bachelor’s Degree in Food Science and Nutrition or related field• Master’s degree, preferredCertifications and/or Licenses:• Current certification as Registered Dietitian with the American Dietetic Association• Active, current valid licensure/certification as required by the state or work stateJob-Related Experience:• Customarily has two or more years of experience as dietitian or nutritionist
