We are seeking an experienced and strategic leader to oversee the development and operation of the CoCounsel for Corporate Legal Departments team. As the Director, CoCounsel for the Corporate Legal Departments, you will be responsible for building and managing a high-performing team of software and platform engineers, building new experiences that bring together the capabilities of the Practical Law, Legal Tracker, the CoCounsel AI Assistant and the AI Platform to drive innovative new solutions to support corporate legal departments.

About the Role:

In this opportunity as Director of Engineering, CoCounsel for Corporate Legal Departments, you will:

  • Oversee the development and operation of the CoCounsel team for corporate legal departments, ensuring high-quality product experiences for legal professionals.

  • Lead efforts to integrate Practical Law, Legal Tracker, CoCounsel AI Assistant, and AI Platform capabilities, focusing on innovative solutions through large language models and generative AI.

  • Build and manage a high-performing team of software and platform engineers, fostering a culture of ownership and strategic thinking.

  • Implement processes to enhance operational excellence, ensuring clear communication and organized project management.

  • Drive engineering best practices, emphasizing testing and monitoring for reliability and efficiency.

  • Manage stakeholder relationships to align priorities and perspectives for successful platform improvements.
     

About You:

You’re a fit for the role of Director of Engineering, CoCounsel for Corporate Legal Departments if your background includes:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.

  • 10+ years of experience in product engineering, with a focus on AI/ML products.

  • Proven experience in leading ML product development, particularly for legal technologies.

  • Expertise in building AI and ML-driven backend services using Java, Python, SQL, HTTP APIs, and general back-end web technologies.

  • Experience with CI/CD, DevOps, and Agile methodologies, including cloud (Azure and AWS) and BI & Data Platforms.

  • Strong skills in recruiting, developing, and motivating high-performing teams.

  • Excellent stakeholder management skills, with the ability to align diverse perspectives.

  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills for effective updates and outcomes communication.
